The boss recently gave me the keys to the jet so a freind of mine and I went on a little golf trip to Omaha. Ok, the boss is the government and we were doing training missions, but it still is a cool job.

We were planning on Myrtle Beach but cost and the weather made us look elsewhere. I had been to Omaha before on a trip and remembered the airport was nice logistically so I looked up courses on the net.

We found the Players Club on the net, an Arnold Palmer design, and booked a tee time for Sat. That left Friday afternoon. We settled on a nice course near the airport called Shoreline.

Weather as perfect, mid 80s, partly cloudy, a nice break from 105 in Del Rio. The grass was lush and green and the course was in great shape. We had to wait for a tourney to finish before we could tee off and that group left the bent grass greens a little stressed from ball marks (why don't people repair ball marks?)

Over all Shoreline was a nice relaxing course with lots of water and trees but not punishing. If you fly into Omaha, its only about 15-20 min from Eppley Field. At 20 bucks twilight, its a great deal.

The Players Club is a new housing development course soon to go Private. It was in great shape too, lush and green. GPS carts are included and sat morning was 65 bucks. One might think of NE as flat corn fields, but the Omaha area has its share of rolling hills and this course took full advantage of them. Overall a very pleasant experience, I would recomend this course to players of all levels.

Sunday's plans to play the Offut AFB, courese were rained out unfortuneatly.

Nightlife in Omaha is great too. The recently renovated downtown area is chock full of terrific restaurants and shops. Just across the river in Iowa, are muliple riverboat casinos if you are so inclined. Being it was the home of Omaha Steaks, I ate my monthly beef quotient. Very Yummy....

If you are looking for a golf trip and want to escape the summer heat, check out Omaha. Nice courses, resonable prices, good food, and usually a lot cooler than FL or TX.

Thanks for the kind words about Omaha. I believe Indian Creek is a fine course also. Prices in Omaha are low with lots of specials since a number of newer golf course housing developments have overbuilt the market. To bad you didn't get to play willow lakes like you planned. It looks easy but plays hard.

    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
