When we stepped out the back of Pinehurst's clubhouse yesterday, I didn't even realize that we were right there at the 18th green. The host mentioned "there's 18" and it was Sunday, so the hole was cut right where it was when Payne made the 15-footer to win the US Open. Some young man made a putt from about the same place and pumped his fist and raised his leg, just like Payne.

I looked to my right and saw the statue.

But it's funny - because Pinehurst didn't look like Pinehurst. It was dormant! A whole lot of the course was brown. Just interesting...

At least I can now say "been there, got the logo ball."

The Mrs and I went to the golf school there and our favorite was the back 9 of #5.It is really nice with all the ponds and backyards right up on the fairways.#2 is not visual as impressive as say 7 or 8 but it is open quality so you can't knock it.How did you like Maniac hill? The school is on the far end and you hit toward each other!!

I didn't play Pinehurst #2 - we had lunch and did a little bit of shopping there (logo balls).

I went with some friends to the Country Club of North Carolina in 1998 and played Pinehurst #8 that same weekend. (#2 was closed for upgrading and tweaking for the 2000 Open) The thing I remember most was seeing the older folks lawn bowling dressed in white, head to toe. Also the chariot horse racing at the tracks there. I thought that was very cool.

I am an Exercise Physiologist and I run a Personal Training Club in West Bloomfield Michigan. I am very fortunate that many of our clients have memberships at the top country clubs in the area. This has allowed me to play Oakland Hills North and South, Franklin Hills C.C., TPC Michigan and Detroit Golf Club. I was also lucky enough to have tickets to the Ryder Cup this year. It was great, but what made it better is that I could actually know exactly what they were up against since I had played the course 3 months earlier. It was the same way at the Ford Senior Champioship at TPC. It gives you a whole new perpective as to how good these pros really are.
