Hey guys. Iam new on here. Figured I would throw this question out to everybody on here.
I have been playing for awhile, i quit golf for about 5 years and really getting back into it this year. got myself down to a 9 handicap in 5 months not doing to bad so far.
Right now I play with some older 962 Irons and a 975 D driver with a graphalloy shaft in it.
I have been looking for some new clubs. I want a nice clean look to them. Next year this time I hope to try and qualify for a few am events. I miss playing in competition alot.
any ideas?
thanks

The 962s are still some pretty solid clubs. The driver you may want to swap out soon. I'd keep the irons for awhile until you really get back into it and have a chance to shop around.

Ya I still do like the solid feel of the irons, the driver needs to be swapped out bad. I was looking at some of the new ones and I just love the classic look of the driver. I hate the huge drivers, just cant get passed the way that they look.
I got some 731pm's the other day to hit. Dang those are some hard irons to hit. They feel so good but the miss hits are harsh on the hands.
I have a 580 head that a buddy gave to me after the shaft snapped because of the airport. Iam thinking about re shafting that but dont know yet. I also have a Great big bertha 2 that a buddy gave me. Any ideas on what head to use with a new shaft?

I'm in the exact same boat. I still have the 962s also (after returning to golf only a few months ago). Titleist's new 695 series irons feel really good, along with the Macgregor m675 progressive musclebacks.
Let us/me know if you find anything you really like...after being out of the game for a few years, all the new clubs are a little overwhelming. Good luck

ya there are so many new clubs out there, I like the progressive combo's that are out there. One of my co workers plays the calloway pro series and he loves them. he went from the 690 titleist series to these. He says there more fun. Isnt that the point?

why do people want to use blades anyways with everything thats so new coming out. From alot of the "players cavitity back irons" i can work the ball pretty well.
any ideas?

My first set of irons were Titleist 981's now have moved on to Mizuno MP-30's. I would agree to stay with those Titleist you got now and look for a driver, maybe try to find a 983E or K on ebay depending on the type of ball flight you want. The 983 could serve you for a few months to a few years since they are going for under a hundred their plus it is 350cc which would be a good lead way into the 400cc+ drivers.

I am going to stay with the 962's for the time being until I decide on what I want to get and see where my game goes. I need to focus on getting a new three wood and then getting a new driver.... so time to make two new threads :) well get everybody posting here on a friday haha

I'm the same way with drivers - most of the newer 460cc clubs look like a loaf of bread on a stick to me. I use a Callaway Hawkeye because I prefer the more compact look, and it still goes like hell if I hit it right.

    • Mostly pull cuts to slices. Some random pull draw/hooks pending of I hit the toe.
    • What's the rest of that story? Where was the ball going?
    • The criticisms are starting already 🤣 U.S. Open pro criticizes Shinnecock green conditions: 'Bumpy' After playing his first practice round at the 2026 U.S. Open, Michael Kim offered a less-than-glowing review of Shinnecock's "bumpy" greens.   The sand, I don't care about that. If the greens didn't come back as well for latest aerification, that would be a bit of a blunder on Shinnecock I think.
    • Well, if your frame of reference spins twice during the swing, then Bryson's ab/adduction is more like 780 degrees so there! (Yes I'm being silly, but not sure it's any sillier than what your pal Andy is doing...)
    • Update: Brandon Sorsby has decided to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft. He will not play for Texas Tech in the upcoming season.  From my perspective, I think he did the right thing. I hope he gets the correct help for his gambling addiction. I say the right thing, because I would be worried that the stress from all of this now and throughout the entire year would not be beneficial towards his mental health.  If an NFL team picks him up, then there really isn't any pressure for him to play immediately. He can work on himself and his game for the NFL.  From Texas Tech,  "Texas Tech will continue to provide the support and recovery resources Brendan requires on this journey. Furthermore, Texas Tech will not seek return of any amounts already paid to Brendan through his NIL agreements with the University," Campbell wrote. "We wish our best to Brendan, and we offer our prayers to him and his family as he chases his dreams at the next level. This has been an unbelievably painful experience for us all, but I know that his true, underlying character and lessons learned through this experience will ultimately bring him great success on the field of play and in life." Which, I also the right thing to do.
