hey Sandtrapers,

I am a 9.6 handicap and tomorrow an old friend of mine that I have golfed with back when i was living in New York is going to be playing a round with me in California tomorrow.
my friend is an 18.5 handicap and wants 11 strokes. (we are only playing for a beer and I really don't care) but 11 strokes seems like an awful lot.
my question si this: is there a method for allocating strokes based on your handicap to your playing partner??
again _ I am 9.6 and he is a 18.5 - he wants 11 strokes
the course we are playing has a slope/rating of 72.6 / 135 if that helps
thanks for any help
Andrew

As a low handicap I know your pain. I have given out 18 shots before. If I were you I would try to round it down to 9 shots so he stroking half of the time. Depends on the course too, if you know the track and he doesn't, he might need all those 11 shots to keep it close. Basically, if he beats or shoots his handicap he wins. A 22 can also shoot 100 (or more i guess) though so it really can go either way.

If you are gonna play match play, what about a half shot a hole? If you are gonna play stroke play then give him the 11 shots, by the slope and rating it sounds like it would be hard for your friend to play well espcially if if they have never played the course before.
