I've been to Myrtle Beach twice and enjoyed playing the courses mentioned, but they all don't allow walking and I haven't gone back since. Is there any way to walk the courses there?

Although I haven't been, the Pinehurst area during the fall looks like a good deal. Some of the courses allow walking. I'm actually going to go there soon.

Also, Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania has a collection of courses with reasonable green fees as well. I know Homestead allows walking on the weekdays.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

My golfing buds and I take 5 trips annually. Two to Florida (Orlando Area), Two to the San Antonio area (Tapatio Springs and La Cantera) and every July we go to New Mexico. Of the five, the Albuquerque area is the least expensive and most fun. We go for a week and play Paako Ridge, Towa, Black Mesa and Lake Cochiti. All are great/fun courses and the green fees are around $50.00. Ruidoso is a bit more expensive at the Links of Sierra Blanca and Inn of the Mountain Gods.

BTW, I'm headed up to your area this weekend (Sunday) to play at Cannon Ridge. I've heard good things about it but have never played there... do you have any thoughts?

Sorry for the delayed response, I'm sure you've already played it. Interested in what you thought. I live five minutes from Cannon Ridge, and I personally love the course, save for one par five that gets on my nerves. Number 12's fairway slopes severely right to left if you hit it over the flat landing area off the tee. But landing it in that area leaves you too far back, in my opinion. Conversely, I think that number 3 is my favorite par 5 in the area... a huge landing area that doglegs right... it's a slicer's paradise. I've birdied it two of the last three times I've played it.

Since this is off-topic, send me a PM and let me know what you thought.

    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
