Hello everyone,

I'm still having golf lessons. Recently joined a Golf Club and National Golf Association (YAY!) so i can start playing right away once i finish the lessons. I don't have a handicap yet... One question about handicaps (EGA):
21.3 To attain an EGA Exact Handicap a player shall submit such number of Stableford scores over 18 holes or 9 holes (see clause 17.2) as the National Association requires, but not less than three. A member of an Affiliated Club must play the rounds under Handicap Conditions at his Home Club or any other course recognized and approved by his Handicapping Authority. A player who is not a member of an Affiliated Club must play the rounds under Handicap Conditions on a course of an Affiliated Club or any other course recognized and approved by the National Association subject to any directions made by the National Association. Each score shall be signed by the Marker and countersigned by the player. At least one of the scores must equal an Exact Handicap of 36.0 or better (36 or more Stableford points). The best of the submitted Stableford scores counts for calculating the initial Exact Handicap.

2.25 MARKER A “Marker” is a player (a) who holds or has held an EGA Handicap or (b) a player who holds a handicap from a handicapping authority recognized by the National Association or (c) any other player approved by the Handicap Committee.

So, how do you attain an handicap if you don't know any player who holds a handicap from a handicapping authority recognized by the National Association?

Can anyone explain me this? I mean i usually play with "golfmates" (people having golf lessons too). I don't have friends with a handicap, so this is kinda of weird to me... You can't play without a handicap... to get a handicap you need to know someone who already has one... but i don't know anyone! So i can't play ? PANIC! PANIC!

I would think your golf instructor will have all the answers. Perhaps the "Marker" does not need to play the round, so that could be someone at your golf club who trusts you will report the correct scores.

.

You need to turn in a 36 (18 pars or better) to get your golfer's license in Europe? Wow, that is strict. Not too many of us Americans here on the forum would qualify to be playing any golf in Europe.

Hello everyone,

Like Doc said your instructor should have the answers, likely your club's handicap committee will want extra day scores (section 18) and will pair you with an established member to play.

Actually I think all rasilva needs to return is at least one score of less than ~108, depending on course rating and slope (for example less than 103 at Crystal or 117 at Cyprian).

21.6 When a player fails to return a score justifying an Exact Handicap of 36.0, he shall NOT be given an Exact Handicap of 36.0.
