I went to the golf shop yesterday, they were having a sidewalk sale and in their demo bin they had a r7 460 with a teeny, tiny ding on the top of the head. The price tag on the club was $319.99 then the sale of 20% off of that so I decided to see if the sales manager would drop a bit more off due to the ding and got him to take another $50 off so the price ended up being right around $215 for a r7. I'm pretty stoked, it's got the stock Taylor Made stiff flex shaft in it which is what my 580xd has too.

I didn't plan on buying a new driver for a while but what the hell, for that price on that club I kinda had to do it.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me as well. I remember going back and forth between the TM and the FT-3 for a while before I finally decided on the FT-3. Have fun with the new driver....it's def. sweet.

i need to find deals like that.. only deal i almost got was a Hybrid 2i Taylormade Dual, that i could have gotten nfor 180. Which while I thought it'd be a fine deal for the club, and what others price it as, I just couldn't spend 180 bucks on a hybrid right now.

I'm terrible, but i have fun.

Sounds like a very nice deal for a new driver.

Today, at my local golf shop I was looking through the clearence bins and they had Adams Redline RPM 430 new in plastic, with an aldila shaft, with the weight tool for 100 dollars. I was in need of a new driver as I have been slicing the crap out of my old one. Also there, they had a very beat up original R7 with no weight tool, no headcover for 110 bucks. It seemed like a very obvious choice for me, as the only difference I can see is the Adams is 30 cc bigger.

Adams RPM 430Q, 9.5 Aldila 65NVS
Cobra F speed 3 wood
Nike CPR 5-PW
Cleveland 900 series 52 degree wedge
Titleist Oil Can Spin Milled 58 degree wedge (freaking sweet, go get one)

I am still shocked I got that club so cheap. Normally I'm the king of "last year's model for 50% off" deals so to have the latest model of Taylor Made is quite different for me.

I took the 460 to the range last night and I hit the living be-jesus out of it. It came weighted to promote a draw and I planned on changing that since at times I will hook when I miss but I forgot the tool in my car so decided to try it like that and surprisingly I managed to his it almost dead straight. I didn't really spend much time trying to work it since I normally don't try to work my driver much other than to draw it and that was working fine. The sweet spot on this driver is the size of a volkswagen bug I swear. I had so many solidly struck shots. Another thing I like is the confidence level at address is off the charts, you just know you're going to make solid contact and groove the sweet spot everytime.

All in all it's early but I am really happy with the purchase, I'm taking it for a real round tonight so I'll be anxious to see how it performs in action.

I was hoping you'd post after hitting your new driver. I recently upgraded to an r7 460 as well and pretty much had the same reaction you have. If I hit a bad drive with this club...I've really screwed something up. It's very forgiving which is what I was looking for. The extra distance is a very nice bonus but it turns out that playing out of the fairway is more effective then playing out of the rough/trees/pine-needles. Go figure. I love my r7 460. Hope you have good luck with it on the course.

    • Did you look up any Rules before posting here? What did you learn or find? You don't get to drop (or place) closer to the hole. 16.1(c) deals with relief for Abnormal Course Conditions in bunkers. You're granted free relief for: Since you say the bunker was basically entirely full of water, you likely wouldn't get complete relief, so for free (no penalty strokes), you are entitled to "maximum available" relief. If there's a spot in the back of the bunker away from the hole where the water is the shallowest, then you can drop there. If you don't like any of those options, you can take a penalty stroke and drop out of the bunker, behind it: You seem to have played from a wrong place (nearer to the hole) and thus likely should be penalized two strokes. It doesn't sound like a serious breach, at least.
    • I feel that the stock grips on my Wilson D9's are a little thin.  The grips on my other clubs (purchased used online and sold by me a couple months ago) were Golf Pride and they looked like the wrapped version.  I will say they felt like they had a little more cushion.  I don't have particularly large hands.  Did the grips on my other clubs have more tape or was just a better feeling softer grip?  I have no idea.  Well, any brands you would recommend that have a softer feel?
    • So this situation happened. A bunker in front of the green was full of water. My ball was underwater in the very back of the bunker furthest from the green. There was a small patch on the front upslope of the bunker nearest the green that theoretically could have been used to hit from if the ball was placed.  A drop would just roll back into the water. And this was the only part of the bunker you might be able to get a stance without standing in water. So my question is do you hit from that small front slope even though you would have to move the ball 6-7 closer to the pin? Or do you drop outside the bunker making sure you are no closer to the pin? I dropped in front of the bunker, so I had to chip over the whole bunker. Was this the right call? Also could I have moved it latterly outside the bunker, although this wouldn’t have made much difference as my ball was pretty much as far back in the bunker as you could be away from the hole.
    • I just got my shotscope v5 watch and used it yesterday. Its fairly accurate at the course I was playing so I did not use my rangefinder at all. I was able to calculate what club i needed from that.
