The oldest clubs in my bag are the eye 2s i was fitted for when i was 14 (4 years ago). If i remember correctly, they are 1 or 2° flat, 1" short, and the shafts are a regular flex. (i have since taken almost 2 years off of the game, and i am taller and stronger than i was then) I noticed this year i have to reach/set up uncomfortably to ground the club. My soft draw is a hard hook, just with these clubs, and i think this may be why. I would love to be able blame my misses on the clubs, but i don't know what is really causing it.

Does this seem plausible? If so, should i buy new irons?

Yes. Please do yourself a favor and get yourself re-fit. No need to buy a whole new set of clubs right now. If you like the clubs keep them! A proper fitter will be able to tell what needs to be changed. My guess is that they are way too short for you, and the lie is off. You can get extensions put in the shafts to make them the proper length and correcting the lies are easy enough too if need be. You would be surprised how much better you will hit the ball with clubs that are fit for you.

    • Maybe not different but more concise and with data to better explain the issue. I think it aids both the instructor and student as it can be interpreted as technical as each person wants.
    • Day 320: worked on putting with the yardstick drill for a while. Checked set up in the mirror as well, and it was pretty solid.
    • Truer words have never been spoken, as I am seeing tonight 😅. I hope my ignorance did not come across as arrogant… Definitely true, however there was also a pro present, albeit not trained in GEARS specifically as would be necessary. I am certainly learning a lot (as I hoped I would). I am not here to challenge the accuracy or significance of any data, as I did find it interesting how it objectively showed my swing. What I am wondering is if an expert teacher trained in GEARS was shown a swing with and without GEARS, would the pro come to a different conclusion using GEARS versus "traditional methods," genuinely curious.
