I have read many of the Divot threads on this site and many of them are concerning people "wanting to make divots".

I have really been striking the ball well lately and am consistently scoring in the high 70's and low 80's. This is my first year concentrating on golf. I usually play 5 to 6 rounds a year but now have made golf a priority and hit balls for a few hours a day and play 4 to 5 rounds a week. I am improving well however something is changing. My season started in late april so ive been playing for about 3 to 4 weeks and im worried my divots are getting to deep.

This is only a problem on my 9I , my pitching wedge and my 56 degree vokey. I am making my divot in front of the ball and hitting it well however IMO I seem to be hitting too deep into the ground which is shortening my yardage. I am still hitting the ball straight and okay yardage wise but it doesnt seem to be as solid.

It feels weird but wondering if its okay. Does it feel weird because Im finally hitting my wedges correctly.

Do I need to be worried. If yes what do I do to help fix it.

Here are my yardages from this mornings practice session where I was making deeper divots.

PW- 90-105

56 Degree Wedge - 50-75

Appreciate all the help

A note: It has rained a lot the last week and the ground is very soft which doesnt seem to help the problem as the club is breaking the ground easier

If you are hitting somewhat of a draw and the divots are bigger, you dont have to be too worried. Now, if you are hitting very deep divots and you fade the ball then you might wanna try to fix it. I take a tiny bit deeper divots when i draw than when i fade. The only way i can think of changing it is from seeing other people struggling with it. They seem to have a problem of dipping their front shoulder when they turn. That is the thing i can really think of that you may wanna have someone watch. When i hit a ball just a tiny bit chunky with a deeper divot it is because i don't hold the angle in my wrists long enough. That is easier for my to feel, I do not know how much you practice, if you can feel it yourself. Unless it is shortening your yardage by ten yards than i do not think it is a big deal. If it bugs you and you are worried about it than have a local pro look at you.

yeah, you should def be hitting pitching wedge from 120-135 given your skill level. try keeping your weight forward and swing through the ball, try to make your divot start 3 inches after the ball. this will lengthen your follow through and you'll be hitting it farther and more accurately. put a golf ball a few inches in front of the one you're trying to hit. you should be able to hit both of them if you're swinging correctly.
