I've decided to stay with the 2 plane swing. 57 Y.O. with the flexibility of a over dried oak 2x4 I've concluded the two plane swing is the wisest choice.

5 days ago I had an awful range session. Then I skimmed Jim Hardy's book again. Range session yesterday was awesome. Clean crisp shots. Got my distance back. 150 yard 8 irons. High penetrating shot with a tad of a draw.

My keys:

Set up

Tall narrow stance
Head is an extension of the spine.
Weight is supported by quads holding posture
Wrists are directly below jaw.

Swing

Swing starts by hovering club above ball--(keeps me tall throughout swing).
Start swing pulling back on target line
And finally (most important) the hand set can never be too high at the top. Feels a bit like John Daly too me.

If I flatten my swing with the 2 swing posture I find all sorts of bad things happen. Mainly the ugly results of casting OTT swing. Pulls, Pull-hooks, slices etc.

Last night i had one of my better ball striking nights. 6 out of 7 FIR, 4 out of 9 GIR (two shots were on the fringe, easily puttable). Really i wasn't thinking much of anything. I just went through my routine.

Stand behind the ball get a target line, take a practice swing behind the ball, check my line, find a spot 3 feet infront of the ball, concentrate on that spot, line up my clubface to that and take my stance. Waggle once, then let it rip. But if i had to say the subconcious effort would be maintain the triangle going back. Keep it smooth, no pauses at all. I know the old adidge would be to pause at the top, that is death for me. Once i am at the top, i try to think, let it rip. I have issues with releasing, so i just try to get to a good balanced finish.

Oh, If i had to say one thing i try to work on right now is balance. when i set up to the ball i make sure i can feel balanced on the heels and balls of my feet. Once i get comfortable there i just let it rip.

Turn back with both of my shoulders..thats the only thing i really key on. If one shoulder takes over the other i tend to be off plane. I do have a quirky thing in which i like to see my left shoulder stay behind the ball as i begin my downswing, but besides that i just make sure i have my pimp stance ready after my super shot lands next to the pin.

Thats fine, my pro has been trying to get me to hold my back to the ball a bit more before the downswing to get my self more controlled by turn of my swing than my hands.

    • Day 3, April 11, after the Masters and before dinner, I had time (quite a bit of time, actually) to hit about two dozen practice balls, complete with the pelvis limiting drill.  As with the past two days, I would do the drill for pelvis limiting, then take slow rehearsals of the backswing, checking positions in a mirror, and then reset and hit.  These were all indoors, off a mat, into a net, primarily with a 6-iron, although a few were with a 9-iron.
    • Day 234 4-11 Wrist arching and hips/chest in backswing. Really trying to hammer in the wrist arch, its such a  better swing when I do it correctly, its not in muscle memory yet.
    • Day 557 - 2026-04-11 Got some work in after lessons. Backswing has to be shorter. Slightly cupped.
    • You know, I haven't followed much professional golf the past few years, and he wasn't the star of today's show, but I think I like this Sam Burns fellow.  I hope he plays well tomorrow.
    • All of these missed fairways and the miraculous escapes followed by the seemingly reliable miracles suddenly stopping reminds me of another former Masters champion whose luck ran out on the 72nd hole of a major twenty years ago.
