Hey guys, I have a question.

I have always preferred hitting hybrids over fairway woods, and I want to look at getting a couple hybrids in the future. I currently carry in my bag

Callaway x-18r irons 4-s
Cleveland 22* wood I inherited. I think it is custom bc I've never seen anything like it. At any rate, it is really long like a wood and I don't really like it.
Taylormade 09 burner driver
putter
60* wedge i play around with

I realize this is a general mess that doesn't make sense, but I promise I am working towards streamlining my bag. My goal is to maybe drop a couple irons and the 22* in favor of wedges and hybrids. What degrees do you guys recommend I carry and what irons would you drop from my bag for them to replace? The wedges I think I will be able to figure out but I don't know which hybrids would give me a good place to start. I was thinking 2h and 4h, but I would appreciate some opinions. Thanks!

If you're looking to replace a fairway wood like a 5-wood, then a 2-hybrid is a good choice. If you're looking to replace long irons, a 3, 4, or 5-hybrid is where you want to go.

Do you even need to remove anything to add wedges? How many clubs total are you carrying right now?

Sorry, I've been messing around with my bag so much lately I actually had to go recount because I wasn't sure.

Right now, 12.

If I add 2 hybrids, and drop the 22*, that puts me at 13. So I could add a 52*, and still keep my x18r's 4-sw.

*Feels dumb for not counting his clubs before posting*

So I guess my question is, should I go with a 2h 4h, or 3h 5h...or something else?

Okay, so you have no fairway woods...
Do you have trouble hitting your long irons at all? If so, at which club do the problems start?

You could always add a wedge or two and then take the iron(s) you replaced with a hybrid out.

I have fairway woods, but I rarely hit them as I usually have better success just hitting my buddy's hybrid. That's why I thought about just pulling them out until I can feel more comfortable with them. Does a 2h replace a 2i and a 5h a 5i? or is there more to it?

I guess one of my issues is trying to understand why I would ever need woods over hybrids anyway.

In general terms, the hyrid would replace the long irons. There's more to it based on loft, shaft length and stiffness, etc. I agree with you about the fairway woods, the only time I really use them is off the tee on dog legs...

My question would be which clubs you would miss more. :P

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
