I was trying out the r9 4 wood with the adjustable head the other day
The fitting guy had me hit it with a closed face since i tend to slice the ball
I actually hit the ball straight most of the time which was surprising

BUT my question is, would it be better for me to set it in the neutral setting to begin with and try to learn to hit corectly and eliminate my slice that way instead of adjusting the club to compensate for my swing flaw?

I guess it depends on if you want to improve your game, or if you just want to hit the ball straight. For myself, I've always been of the mentality that I want to improve my game, so I've never used clubs that will mask any swing flaws.

Basically, it's a personal preference. You already know the upside and downside to each choice, so the decision is yours.

The answer may be "all of the above".

Especially at first, and if you don't have a ton of time for practice/lessons--and prefer to get your tips from an online forum ;) -- using a draw-biased driver (or clubhead setting) will probably make your rounds more enjoyable. Over time though, we probably all hope to improve our swings and make them look like the pro's. If your swingpath improves, you'll start hitting draws or even hooks with your draw-biased setting. When that happens, with a few clicks of the wrench you can then have a neutral-biased driver. (And as a user of an adjustable driver, i like the fact that i can adjust things as my swing changes without having to buy a whole new driver).

I would let the adjustment straighten you drives and later you may need to adjust the setting back to neutral.

Use the setting that works best for you. I love my adjustable driver. I have it cranked 2* open.
