I have to admit that I'm just not a good enough player to see much difference in golf balls. I've played AD333, Trispeeds, E6, E7, TP Reds, NXT Tour and Extremes, Laddie Extremes, Pentas, etc. Basically, I've had good rounds and bad rounds with all of them. As a 15hcp, I never have the consistency to say for sure that one ball or another is longer off the tee, or pchecks up better around the green. I think I'm a pretty typical 15hcp, and the consistency just isn't there to say for sure that the ball is causing a certain action.

Until today that is, I finally played some TF Gamers I had laying around. I've had balls spin back before, but every well struck iron 8i down spun back today. I've had balls check nicely before, but every crisply struck wedge shot spun and checked hard today. Unfortunately, most times I wasn't prepared for this and left a bunch short, but that's not the ball's fault. That said, by the end of the round I had the confidence to hit chips a little sharper and was cozying them up close to the pin. I guess all the "hype" is correct, these are some spinny cheaper balls. I know the Penta and TP Red should have been acting the same, but I just didn't see it, could also be that I'm chipping a bit better now.

Anyway, just reporting what I saw, this is the first ball I can say with confidence is a true "spin" ball around the green. Can't say much about distance with the driver because I didn't hit squat with the driver today, but it seemed to be as good as any other ball I've used in this respect.

On leaving a spin ball short:

Golf Digest put out a Total Golf binder several years ago: For $40 (??), GD would send you a monthly set of golf how-to lessons on stiff glossy paper which you could put into a ring binder.

One multi-page segment dealt with matching your short game to your ball type: distance, mid-spin and high-spin. The segment had six general short-game situations, and recommended the club and shot depending on what ball you used. It was a little overcomplicated, but interesting.

I mention ball + short game because a change in ball spin might affect more than just distance. Might call for different types of shots.
