I was just wondering if anyone on here lives in or around the gulf and was having to deal with the oil spill. It's ashame this is happening and I'm sorry if you live there. It amazes me that we can send a man to the moon in 1969 but can't send one 5,000 ft below the ocean in 2010.
We're supposed to vacation to Panama City Beach in October but I'm sure that will be cancelled, but my woes are the least of the problems...

I'm still buying BP gas because I figure I'm gonna pay for the cleanup with my tax dollars anyways, might as well help twofold with my gas money as well...

my daughter goes to school at FSU so she is closer than we are here in SoFLA. What pissed me off big time today was watching the USA - England game and all the CASTROL ads on the sidelines and to see ESPN still promoting CASTROL not having a FREAKIN clue that CASTROL is BP. If you or me changed the oil in our car and dumped it in the canal out back and somebody saw you, your ASS would be in jail..If a kid puts a golf club upside the head of a miscove duck...his ass is in jail...if you shoot a gator...ur ass is in jail...but these dickweeds can pump millions of barrels, kill thousands of animals and its all NP. WTF?

We're vacationing is Seagrove Florida in a few weeks. I think they've already had oil on the beaches there...

      I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

      Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
