need help: fairway woods shafts

recently got a project x graphite 66g shaft from a friend. Already have a good shaft for my driver so i wanted to cut it down to fit my 3 wood (to make it around 43'). Is this advised? what do i need to consider before i chose to do this?

moreover, i regularly read that people advise on not cutting driver shafts for fairway woods...but why is it impossible to find fairway wood specific shafts at ebay or even golfsmith?

I have the same shaft on my Driver and 3W (both stock not custom), and they work fine - as long as I swing the club smoothly.

Not sure if other posters were concerned about retrimming a driver shaft properly for a FW, or that some shafts work best just for drivers. I know that a couple of people believe you should have a heavier shaft in a 5W than in your driver - this might have something to do with equalizing total club weight.

We'll see what others say. Should be an interesting thread.
