I pulled my drive deep left on 16, a par 4, right next to the green of 17. I get up there and the group ahead of us is just starting to tee off. The first two guys fade right and short. The third guy gets up there and swings and as soon as he hits the ball he yells "crap" and throws his club down and turns his back to the hole and starts shaking his head. I lose track of the flight and hope it won't hit me...then I see it land 5 feet in front of the hole, take a gentle hop, then roll in without rattling the flagstick. His buddies saw the ball drop, but the guy who hit it was walking off the tee cursing himself for his 'bad shot'. Poor bastid!

I hit my drive on a Par 3, 124 yd hole in Sebring, FL last Satiurday, when one of my scramble partners starts yelling "it's going in!"......well it did not go in, but my divot was 2 feet directly in front of the pin and my ball came to rest 6 inches above the hole on the opposite side.

I saw a hole in one this past weekend, too. He almost made the same reaction. Not because he hit a bad shot, but because he knew he was going to get reamed after the round. Which of course he did. Gray goose with cranberry is really good, lol.

maybe he didn't want to make a hole in one off a shot that he didn't hit well...lol. to be honest, i wouldn't. i wouldn't want to buy anyone drinks and have the hole in one shot not even be solid!

what's the tradition with hole in ones? Not that i expect to hit one.. but is it 'buy your playing partner drinks'?
