I received a coupon for a free hybrid club from Magique Golf at a tournament yesterday. I have to pay shipping, but that's it. I don't need the club, and I don't know anything about the company - they could be complete junk. That being said, I'm not opposed to getting it if it will give me another tool to work with.

Anyone heard of this company, or played with their sticks?

I got that same coupon after playing in Myrtle Beach and, since I was looking for another hybrid to put in my bag, I figured why not give it a shot.

Here's a few comments I have about the whole situation:
1. Be aware that the club they are willing to ship you is a steel-shafted club. I prefer my hybrids and woods to be graphite, so that'll cost you another $40.

2. I needed a different grip size... that's another $15.

3. The company was great to deal with over the phone and were very nice and even though I was told it would be 6-8 weeks before my club would arrive, it was there in about 10 days.

4. All that being said, I'm not overly impressed with the club. To me, it has an awkward head shape (looks a little like the Callaway ERC hybrids) and I seem to slice the ball quite easily with the club, despite the fact that I hit my TaylorMade TP (and all my other clubs for that matter) straight with a slight draw. The club has good feel, but after hitting only about 15 balls with, I started to notice an abundance of dings on the face of the club where I hit the ball.

5. Fortunately, my dad ended up being able to use the club so it wasn't a complete waste, but for my money, you're better off finding a used TaylorMade hybrid or something along those lines on Ebay. It kinda seems like this might be another situation of "you pay for what you get."

Thanks for the response! This is exactly what I was looking for. It doesn't sound like this is a club I'd be willing to yank another club from my bag for.

My wife and I got the same coupon after playing in a charity tournament. She needed a "real" sand wedge since the one in her set is pretty much garbage (literally about a 1 inch sole width - looks like a hybrid). So we figured for $30 we didn't have much to lose, and since they let you customize it she could get it shorter and with a ladies flex shaft instead of just buying a used men's wedge at Golfsmith. It took about 4 weeks to get the club (like the coupon said) and we were pretty impressed with it. The grip looks cheap but the club head itself is pretty nice looking. Since I had my coupon as well I ordered a 60 just to play around with (since I didn't have one at the time), and I have to say I like it. Its probably not as good as a Vokey but for something I'll only use a couple times a round and never really hit a full shot with I'm pretty happy. I'm sure the parts are made in China, but at least its assembled here. The club head itself is really nice looking..... and I'll fix the grip this fall when I regrip everything.

My brother gave me a Magique coupon from a tournament.

I selected a 3-hybrid, got a fiberglas rather than steel shaft and ended up paying $65 for the club, including shipping.

Magique guy on phone was polite, and knew his golf clubs. We talked for 20 minutes after I selected the club; he had interesting ideas on shafts, which matched what others have since suggested.

Used this club instead of a 5W in spring 2009 when I reworked my entire set. 3H was pretty good out of medium rough, but had a mind of its own off tee or from fairway. Bought my current 5W later that summer, and it works much better.

Hello, I used to be the graphic artist for this company years ago 2001 - 2004. Im not even certain they do the custom logo clubs anymore. Before it was sold by the original owner, Dan Plunkett, it was a wonderful company. If you have not recieved your club I suggest that you call the tempe location and speak with Karen Meckler. Relatively certain that she is still the office manager there and also a wonderful lady who is devoted to customer service. A simple explanation for your situation is all she'll need. I know for a fact that if you contact her - she will make sure your club gets made, they are made at that location, and shipped to you asap. If she no longer works there, which would be a surprise, please send me a personal email crossedbarsand13stars@gmx.com and Ill put a phone call in for you. As for the quality of the clubs, well, Ive never been a golfer so I really couldn't say. We always had good reviews on our clubs back when I worked for them. but I know alot has changed. Hope it all works out for you. _Mary Smyth :-)

    • I have an update… I don't have much of a response, because the fact that they would ADD the numbers for the lead and trail shoulder together… I mean, wow. I was giving them too much credit. Nobody would think to assume they were doing THAT. That's beyond comical. One of the biomechanists I talked to put it this way: "So if I squatted down and went from 180 to 90 deg knee angle, then I would say 180 deg range of motion because I have two knees?" I'd type more (maybe), but honestly, I'm laughing a bit too hard. 🤣 Update: Mini Manavian blocked me on Instagram, so I cannot see his post showing Bryson with about 50° of range of motion (with a driver) from P4 to P7, and 75° only if you go out to the mid-follow-through. What a terrible loss for me. 😉
    • Thanks, interesting to read. The swing is definitely very timing dependent. I hit it consistently I guess but consistently bad.
    • I've shot 91-74 on the same day before. Couple of years ago played a two round tournament on Bethpage Black. I shot 72 in the first round and 90 in the second. First round I played very well. Second round I played okay, but had about 5 shots that hit the lips of bunkers and bounced down into them. A couple of those wound up in footprints - I was unamused - and I failed to get them out. Anyway - lots of bunkers and my bunker play isn't great and then add a couple of footprints and me getting pretty tired and it added up to a lot.  Only you can really tell though what's causing the variance. It might be that your swing is very timing dependent and when it's timed well you play well and when it's not then it goes all over the place. In that case, some lessons and working on your swing could be the key. If it's more that you tend to feel like you hit it fairly consistently, but you have days where the shots come off and days where they don't, then that's more likely a course management issue. If that's what you need to work on, then you could read Lowest Score Wins and build a plan of attack based on that.  Rest assured though that a pretty big range from high to low is fairly common. Even PGA Tour players often have 18-20 shot spreads from best to worst rounds in a season. It's a common affliction among golfers.
