Ball Upgrade Suggestion

I didn't want to start a thread on this as it's been discussed, but I'm not satisfied with the answers. I just want to get your opinions. I'm getting to the point where I'm consistently getting through a round with 2 balls or so and I'm looking to upgrade balls.

I am currently playing Slazenger's Distance ball and this thing will hit in the front of the green and roll completely to the other side. I'm looking for something that will offer about the same side spin off the driver, but will bite the greens much better than the slazenger.

I have been considering Callaway HX Bite and Bridgestone E5 & E6. A local pro gave me a couple Precept Laddie's to try.

Any suggestions you guys have will be helpful.

Are these balls similar off the tee box, in terms of side spin?

People say some balls will enhance side spin off the driver. Are we talking an enhancement of 5yds or 50yds? Excuse my ignorance.

Try a few out. I really liked the Srixon Trispeed and NXT Tour for midlevel balls. Everything mentioned in this thread will be a step in the right direction from the Slazenger.

FWIW, the regular Trispeed seems to offer very good diver distance and decent approach spin while minimizing driver spin.

Using a distance ball by its' very nature you will experience less spin and the ability to hold it on a green. Of the balls you mentioned I prefer the Bridgestone E5, reasonably priced with a urethane cover which helps to impart spin. The E5 will not spin as much as a ProV1, Srixon Z-Star or TM TP Black but they do cost less.

I have been playing the HX Bite's for a few years now. I like them a lot. Not a bunch of spin off the driver which is good when I'm having a "slice day". But still plenty soft enough around the greens and I can stop them just fine. I tend to play the old HX Hot Bites more because I get them used. I have tried some new sleeves of the HX Bite (2010 model), and I do prefer them. They don't scuff as easily as the older ones.

I also just started playing the E6. I actually like them slightly better than the HX Bite's, although it's not by much. They are very similar balls IMO. I think the Callaway has a little more driver spin. I can stop them both on the greens just fine. If lostgolfballs was not sold out of AAAA E6, I may totally skipped the Callaway's on my most recent order.

+1 here....Tri Speed offer the best of all worlds in terms of distance off the tee, spin off the drive, spin off wedges, and green grip. I also have been playing gamers lately and really like them. I seem to get better results off the originals than the V2's, but I t may have been an off day...

In the category that you are looking at you basically have these options:

• Bridgestone e6
• Srixon Tri Speed and Tri Speed Tour
• Titleist NXT and NXT Tour
• Top Flight Gamers and Gamer's V2

Buy a sleeve of each, you will probably spend $40, and do your own research or spend the same and get your balls fitted

Just dont go to a premium ball, it wont help your tee shots at all.

Titleist NXT Tour or Bridgestone E5 E6 would be a good choice. I tried the Nike One Black last week and couldn't get it to stop rolling on the greens.

+1 for the Titleist DT Solo. Played it last weekend and it was great. I usually use the Nike Powerdistance Soft and love those and the DT was pretty similar.

I like the Titleist NXT Tour ball. It seems to have the right amount of spin for me and I like the feel of it. I am not as big a fan of the Srixon Trispeed (I find its feel a bit clunky) but at $30 for 2 dozen, its a really good ball/deal. That of course is last years model and I am not sure if the large stores still have them in stock at that price but thought I 'd point it out.

I know this thread will soon be flooded with sage-like advice recommending you buy a cheap ball and just of "hit it right and it will stop". But I think if you are only losing two balls or so a round, $30 for a dozen isn't too bad especially when compared to what you probably pay to get on the course to begin with. but thats just my 2 cents.
