At Home Club Making

I'm looking to get into club making, mostly for my own benefit, but I assume I'd eventually do some stuff for my friends too.

This interest mostly comes from a a loose 3 iron head that I have right now and obviously needing to fix it.

Is something like this pretty spendy to get into? I want to start with simple stuff like shafting and grips, maybe other stuff later.

Tips? Ideas?

You can't possibly build your own clubs with a handicap that high!

Just kidding, it seems every post on here lately has some idiot pulling the HC card. Seriously though, you might want to check out The Golfworks website. They have an extensive list of tools and handy tips for beginners there. I had just recently made my own wedges with some of their stuff. I have also reshafted a couple of clubs, even without a puller (used a welding glove). I think I paid something like $8 for a grip install kit, which includes everything you need to do a grip install, minus the grips of course.

I did quite a few reshafts with nothing more then a propane torch and a hacksaw that turned out fine. If you want to save the shafts you're pulling, a shaft puller is essential though, otherwise you'll end up butchering the tips of graphite shafts. A cheap heat gun is very nice for heating the clubhead in order to pull it. Otherwise, I don't use any specialized tools, just a Dremel I had laying around anyway for cutting the shafts.
