I talked with a bunch of golfers about the kind of shaft they prefer. One guy cried: "I tried Aldila Voodoo and it feels too harsh on my hand...". Another said "I like Fujikura because it feels soft". I honestly don't care the feel of the shaft as long as my drives land on the fairway. Soft feeling shaft is obviously shafts with high torque (above 4.5). I don't think shafts with high torque will deliver consistency for my fast tempo swing. So what do you guys think? Does it matter the feel of the shaft?
Whats in my Golf Bag:
Driver: Nike Sumo 5000
5 Wood: Mizuno MP-001
Iron: Mizuno MX-950 5-PW
Wedge: Cobra FP 60 degrePutter: Odyssey 2-BallBall: Yellow balls

I went from the Aldila NV shaft (in my driver, 3w and 3h) to the VooDoo shaft and it took me a while to get adjusted to it--for the driver. It doesn't feel too harsh to me. In fact, I think it feels more muted (even on off-center shots) than the NV shaft. It could be because it's just a bit heavier. I'm not sure. When I first tried it for my driver, I wasn't sure if I liked it as much because it didn't seem to have that "snap" or "crack" of the NV shaft. But, now that I've played it for a few months, I'm accustomed to the feel. Performance wise, I really don't see too much difference compared to the NV shaft. Good swings still get good shots and bad swings still get bad shots. So, I'm like you--if it's fairly long and the ball ends up in the fairway, I'm happy.

Where I really like the VooDoo shaft is for my 3w and 3h. The "extra" weight allows me to "feel" where my club is during my swing compared to the NV shaft. As a result, I don't turn the ball over as much, so I feel I can swing away without worrying about losing those shots left.

    • I have had the flu recently which gave me plenty of time to pore over Joseph Mayo’s instagram. I have hit a ton of shots each day on carpet and a little started how easy this shot is to make. Key thought for me is bring the club “no closer to the earth.” That really resonated with me. If I really steepen the attack angle I can hit my 58* lob wedge barely an inch or two off the ground and a repeatable distance. I don’t recommend this but tried it to what the end ranges are for angle of descent. I actually think a 62*-64* wedge might be even better for this shot.
