My natural shot shape is a high fade, but there are times out there when I have to draw the ball to fit the hole.

I know there are different ways players go about shaping their shots, so I was just curious what your basic swing thoughts are when it comes to the fade/draw? Do you change your alignment? Do you manipulate the clubface at impact using your wrists and/or forearms?

Personally, I like to keep it simple. For a fade, I line my feet and clubface up towards the target, but my shoulders are aimed a bit left. For a draw, same principle, different shoulder alignment -- I line my feet and clubface up towards the target, but aim my shoulders a bit right. Both instances, I swing as I normally would, but the slight change in shoulder alignment alters the swingpath enough through impact to shape the shot.

So... how do you like to shape it?

Fader/Cutter here too.

I keep it simple also..I'm slightly open at address and swing along my target line..if I miss it it's usually straight..so not bad.

I use the stance adjustment method. But if I want to hit a hard draw with a short club, 8 iron through wedge, I have to preset my hips a little closed and make sure I release my hands fully, with woods if i do this I get to big a hook.

I used the same method. My biggest fault is to get too aggressive on my alignment changes and end up with a big cut or hook. Easy does it on my alignment change will get the gentle draw or fade.

for me its all in the preshot if i visualize the shot and the shape im half way to a perfect shot. from there for me to fade the ball i reduce the amount of release

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
