Okay here is my first video. I apologise in advance for the poor zoom and quality, this came from the iphone V1 golf app.

I can already think of a few things for fixing but id like to hear your thoughts. Before the video i had been slicing the hell outa it! Starting straight and slicing a good 30 meters. The shot in the video did fade but only bout 10 meter from where i was aiming. I did have a good draw happening but after 2 weeks off back to the slice.

So let me have it guys (apologise for the poor attire :) )

Okay video not working...help plz

can you get the camera a bit closer?

You've got a very wide stance, and your left leg looks off.
It's hard to tell from that far away.

i do apologise for the crappy video, the app is rather limited. im pretty sure its straight side on i did line it up as best i could. i also do open my left foot more than the right purposely so i can turn my hips and swing through. before i did this i had trouble finishing in balance on the follow through. i also think my hands are way behind the ball, could this cause errant shots?

looks like a really good swing to me. stance is a bit wide, though, that's the only thing i can see. but like james says, if you get a closer vid and a dtl that would be nice. as far as your hands goes, they're supposed to be slightly behind the driver or even on contact. it's only when your hands are ahead of the driver that you'll be getting into trouble.

Updated swing: October 25 2010.
After couple months off, I have started training again and aim to play in the local comps every saturday. I am fighting a slice with most clubs, predominantly the driver.
Heres a video of the Driver swing. Please feel free to analyse, criticise in any way. All feedback welcome.
Thanks ( apologies for the crap video. i havent got a mount for the iphone yet)

Looks to me as if your hands are behind the clubhead at the moment of impact. At best, equal to the clubhead. Reading in Bobby Clampett's book "The Impact Zone", just this morning, he said this would promote a slice, a pull, or a pull hook. Compare your image below to what a touring pros impact position looks like. Sorry for the crap image, it was with my phone. You can freeze your video if you time it right. Took 10-15 tries to get it right, but you can see better at home in doing so.

I had a hard time finding a good image online, but compare your position against this....

Not saying this is your problem, but it is for many golfers including myself. A journey I have been on this year turned me to the following resources. All are quite related and began with Homer Kelly's famous book in the 1970's, "The Golf Machine". If you think this could relate to you, explore the following....

Jeff Evan's training aid, the Pure Ball Striker...

Bobby Clampett's book, "The Impact Zone". Bottom line on page 104 and the following few pages should have came in the pack with the Pure Ball Striker. The book is a must read. DVD's are out now and can be seen on Bobby's website. Mine are on the way.
http://www.bobbyclampett.com/start.html

Tour Striker training club. Makes you have your hands in front of the clubhead....
http://www.tourstriker.com/

Andrew Rice's book, "It's All About Impact" has tons of pictures of pros in the impact position.

All of the above are focussing on the same basic thing. The importance of the hands leading the clubhead through impact, extending the line of compression, and the importance of a flat left wrist at impact (and beyond).

Thanks Dan, appreciate the comments man. Was in a rush before work today and havent had time to assess my video much.

I can see my hands are behind at impact. There is a lot of alternative advice to this subject. I know for example that the stack n tilt swing says to have the hands ahead at impact. And again, i read somewhere else that hands in front of the driver can cause a whole lot of problems.

I do think my head and body weight shift too far back in the backswing, maybe making it hard for me to get ahead at impact?

Here's a bit of advice that helped stop my slicing. (PM me for the source) Try setting up with your ball on your instep and driver club head in the center of your stance. Why? Because when you place the club head behind the ball when it's forward in your stance it can cause you to set up with your shoulders open a bit which can lead to an out to in club path.

This may not apply to you but doing this has cured my slicing the driver so bad it was getting where I couldn't afford to play golf because of all the lost balls. Like I said this worked for me, it may or may not work for you.

Good luck and keep the good thoughts going.

I have been messing with the Snt swing mainly with my irons. I tried it with the driver and obviously couldnt produce any solid shots so i ditched it. Now im thinking I had too many problems to produce a solid outcome.

Guys who play the Snt.
What should i focus on? Hips forward, hands forward, swing flatter and stop the backswing (noticed my swing kinda points out to the left at the top???)

That is a great tip. I can see how that would open up the shoulders.

Somethings that I noticed in your swing by watching the clips. I am in no way qualified to be teaching thought some of this information might help you out.

You shift away from the ball quite a bit which works against you.

Arms are a bit too close to the body. Unless you plan on swinging like Jim Furyk, I'd suggest giving your arms some room to swing.

Just found this face on view of David Toms swinging the driver on Swing Vision. Notice how he stays very centered over the ball on the backswing then shifts forward from the top while keeping his head behind the ball. You shift away from the ball then shift back to your original position at impact instead of forward and looks as though you just flip your hands through the ball.

At the top of the backswing Zach Johnson's clubface is pointing parallel to his target line where as your clubface is pretty much pointing at the target line.

I really like how your club stays on plane in your takeaway and wish I could do that without it being forced. I think you are very close to being a consistent driver of the ball with some work. You are probably closer than I am.

Cheers man. Where do you find these videos? youtube?

I think i move way too far back on the backswing. I wasnt trying Snt in these videos as i just wanted to understand which fundamentals i lack in.

Im pleased that you like my takeaway, im really conscious to use the upper body, not arms here.

Im not sure why my club points out..... I do think my left wrist cups a little, rather than hinging. eg- its not flat at the top, or at impact.

The flip i take it you mean when at impact my hands rotate (right turns over the club?)

Yeah I found them on youtube. Yeah your takeaway is right on plane so don't change that. Yeah I have the cupping at the top as well but my ball goes everywhere if I flatten the wrist. Will be working on it during the offseason. I think you mainly flip due to being so close to the ball. Try creating some space between you and the ball without falling forward in any part of the swing.

    • It’s not live on free to air tv in the UK, and hasn’t been since 1995. ( I pay a subscription to Sky for generally good golf coverage). There are limited highlights on the BBC for some golf events, but that’s it. Are other/all PGA events on NBC?  Allowing ticket scalping is a systemic failure across sports and showbiz, which could be legislated against, but in the UK is not in any meaningful way. I don’t know much about the secondary market in the US or anti scalping measures.  Charging more to keep prices down is an interesting concept, in practice no doubt you are right even if It sounds a bit Catch 22  Do you think sports tickets and broadcast rights  should be sold on a purely capitalist basis, or is there an argument to say that some sports might benefit more from wider exposure and affordable access. ( golf in the US is apparently not one of these if tickets sold out at those prices so quickly)  Fans might benefit from cheaper tickets and in the UK at least, TV coverage that reaches a wider audience.
