I am looking to change my driver and I need help deciding on which shaft to choose.
I was fitted recently but the results where not quite clear.

Here are my stats with an Aldila Vs Proto:
Clubhead Speed - 98
Ball Speed - 142
Launch Angle - 13.9
Ball Spin - 2478
Swing Tempo - Fast

What shaft would you recommend?

The V2 is a great shaft, but 7070 in a stiff is mighty heavy for a 98mph swing? Possibly the 6060? Whats wrong with the VS Proto, its an awesome shaft, one of my favorites.

Other possible shafts (All these can be purchased new for <$100)

Aldila NVS, DVS (higher ball flight)
GD aura blue or gold
Fuji Zcom
Prolaunch Platinum, Red, or blue (depending on desired flight)

Your desired ball flight would help in narrowing down your choices? Also, if you can tell the diference, do you like a higher torque or a lower torqued shaft? The stiffness can be figured last when you narrow down you choices.

G10 (VS Proto 65 X) or 905S (speeder X) / X Tour 3W (VS Proto S) / Adams Idea Tour Proto 18* (VS Proto S) / S59 Tour, Z-Z65 Cushin (D2) / Mizuno MP-T 51-06 , 56-10, / Miz TP Mills #6 ~or~ Cleveland BRZ #5

what about the 6060 for a 101-104 mph swing speeds... I'm always leery of a "heavy" shaft. What would be the main differences between the two?

Cheers, Allan

The 6060 S should fit a 101-104 SS nicely. It should leave a little room if you wanted to go after one, and the lower torque should keep dispersion nice and tight. Im 6'2" 220lbs and swing 112-116, I like the heavier shafts early in a round, but as the round matures and I tire a bit, the heavier shaft starts getting out of control. Ive figured a 60-70g shaft in most X flexes suit me just fine. Currently changing my Zcom TW74 to a GD Pershing 65X, it should be perfect.

I believe the 7070 in a stiff will play noticeably stiffer than a 6060 stiff. With the added weight it will probably feel like a completely different shaft.

Valid point-I let my bias creep in there. I lean towards a stiffer shaft because I value control and hate pulling the ball left. But the V2 is stout, and the 6060 S is probably plenty of shaft.

Before anything else, thanks for the help!

The problem with the VS Proto is that I don't own one

, I got fitted with a friend's driver since mine broke I would preffer a mid ball flight and probably a mid-low torque shaft. Would a Matrix Ozik x-con 6 suit my swing?

Ive never hit the Xcon 6. The specs say it is a high launch shaft which goes against what you prefer. A website I recently visited (cant remember where) showed the matix shafts against many of the most popular shafts and was at the top of most categories (ie ball speed, dispersion, etc). Supposedly a very solid performing shaft.

Visit diff. manufactures websites. Most of them have an easy graph or on-line fitting system that can narrow down different models and stiffness. Best to hit them first, but sometimes you cant.

    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.

    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands
    • Original definition use to or still is how far offline you hit it. It might be better to think of it as consistency in retaining favorable launch conditions to optimize distance.   That heat map showed a gigantic 0-3% loss in ball speed. That is absurd. The true 100% sweet spot is tiny for all clubs. Good luck telling the difference if the sweet spot is under 3% in a sizable area. Especially considering variation in launch angle, spin, and outdoor weather.
