In Irons, maybe not so very imortant, most people will fit regular steel shafts, most low hc players go for stiff iron shafts, not because the swing irons that fast, but just because they like the greater accuracy.

I have been playing stiff graphite shafts in my driver as well, but sofar I just bought the standard stock stiff available of the rack. One is better than the other.

Sometimes I cut off 0.5 - 1.0 inch of the shaft to add accuracy and control.

I don't think there is a huge difference in the 460 cc heads, of course there are difference in orientation, weighting, etc. but if you hit 10 different drivers and measure the results, most balls will be within 10-15 yds ..... carry. Roll might differ a lot.

I am kind of in the graphite business myself, and know that it is very hard to make 2 identical shafts, so if you make 100 shafts, "bake" them the position in the oven can make them a bit stiffer or weaker. So a stiff shaft might be a certain percentage softer or stiffer than average ..... it is about basicly imposible to make 2 truelly identical shafts. It might well be that there is not a lot difference in between a stiffer than average Regular shaft and a softer than average Stiff shaft.......

So it can happen 10 golfers buying the same driver, same loft, same grip, same swingweight, same shaft, have 10 different drivers ....... I have heard of golfers being fitted, like the demo driver, order the identical driver and are unhappy with the driver they got, to 100% the same specs as the demo.

SO ... what to expect from a so called fitting ?

I don't know and I only speak of a little experience, one of the shops I go to now and then has a launch monitor and a bin with a whole bunch of different shafts in there, you can hit the head you like, with all those shafts and find one that give you an optimum launch angle, ball speed, smash factor, spinrate, etc...... but problem will be that it is kind of a lottery, you will end up with the same shaft that suited you most. Of course the fitter will steer you in a certain direction, based on his knowledge (at least we hope), price, his margin, his stock, his bonus from certain factories, etc......

ANYWAY ..... what to expect from a fitting in theory (and how is it in practice) ?
