golf shoes are uncomfortable compared to regular sneakers. They're designed to give you grip and balance while striking a golf ball, as a result they're more stiff = uncomfortable.

My Puma PG GTX's are the most comfortable shoes I've ever had... golf or otherwise.

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

I definitely

this. Although I have two pairs of the Adidas Tour 360 LTD's from last year. They are by far the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. If you consider your golf shoes to be the most uncomfortable and "fugly" shoes you own, then you haven't gotten a good pair yet. Golf shoes are by far one of the most overlooked piece of equipment in the sport. I walk nearly every time I play so a comfortable pair of shoes is super important, the $35.00 Footjoy Greenjoy's I could buy at work are great for the weekend warrior who plays only a few rounds a year, or rides 98% of the time, or is on that tight of a budget (and I mean absolutely no offense to anyone in that situation, I used to be in it until I found my current shoes :P) But having played both the irish/straits courses out there, I knew spikes were going to be almost mandatory for getting around as a spectator, especially after it rained on wednesday and I wore normal tennis shoes...that was a slip and slide, only not on purpose. It was actually kind of funny, come sunday my friend and I were cutting across a very steep hill where there were probably 15'sh other people sitting at the crest looking down onto 18. I just walk on my toes and just cut right across it, I swear people thought I was defying gravity or something....I just pointed to my shoes and said "spikes :)" whereas my friend in tennis shoes had to scramble in a few places cuz those dunes are pretty gnarly in some spots. Even sitting down to the left side of 11 next to the big trap he was sliding towards/inside the ropes and would have to periodically back up. As someone else said I think it comes down to the geography of the course, "flat" courses like Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, Cog Hill...etc yeah you can just wear any old pair of shoes or flip flops. Up at straits...flip flops would get you killed :P For some reason though, I just find golf shoes to be super comfortable on anything but flat hard surfaces, like the long walk from the tournament to the parking lots, THAT made my knees hurt....but they aren't designed for cement/cartpaths anyway :P

I don't see a problem with people wearing golf shoes while watching a tournament. They are not on the greens so let them have the traction they might need for some of the courses being played. What little I played, I walked and my feet didn't feel too bad for an overweight and out of shape duffer. I bought some less than $50 FJ's.

I will draw the line when people start showing up at the hockey games wearing skates. lol

Only event I ever attended was Saturday of the Barclay's last year. It was raining, and I was very happy I had my golf shoes on.

I wanted to give my shoes a taste of what the grass is gonna feel like once I make it to the tour.

What a joke, I can't believe how dumb some guys are on this forum. I appreciate I livge in Scotland but going to a golf tournie in anything other than golf shoes seems mad. If I went to the Open at St Andrews, Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor or US Open at Bethpage, I'd still wear golf shoes.

I guess its each to their own, i have been to the Australian Masters twice, on marvellous courses, and i wore my Asics runners both times. Asics are one of the best shoes in the world and personally i find them more comfortable than my Footjoy golf shoes. To me and most Aussies, wearing the same kinda shoes as the pros seems childish. Eg- A kid wears his footy boots to the game to be like a real player. Again just my opinion but if you find golf shoes more comfortable than your other shoes i guess it could work.

Your in Australia, it's actually dry there.

Irish (and British) weather is rain, rain, rain and more rain. No point ruining your trainers when you can wear waterproof golf shoes.

I would wear golf shoes because Adidas tour 360 3.0s are the most comfortable shoes i have ever walked in

This is good to know… next time I attend a PGA event I’m going to wear crampons, the same crampons I used to scale the north ridge of K2.

lol

And me, I'm gonna wear my paragliding harness (with parachute attached, of course). Heck at Pebble, on the 6th for example, that puppy might come in handy ..... (Callaway Invitational, where following players on the fairways is allowed/encouraged)

My golf shoes are confortable but not as confortable as my brooks running shoes. I went to the memorial this year and regretted not wearing my golf shoes. It rained hard most the day and my feet got soaked. Was it worth it, YES. Seeing them in person is something every avid golfer should do.

Ah i see your point. IN that case yes i would wear an alternative to runners.

I'm a marshal captain at the Barclays for a few years now. Golf shoes are ok as long as you wear soft spikes. They are the only waterproof shoes most spectators can wear.

As I'm there all week, I have waterproof sneakers I bought from Dicks Sporting goods. Worth every penny!!!
