I'm relatively new to golf and don't have my own driver yet. I was playing with my brother the past 4 rounds or so and have been hitting his Cleveland hibore XLS 10.5* very consistent. Bottom line is I really enjoyed his driver enough that I wanted to finally purchase one for myself. I have been doing some searches and found a new driver for a good cost but it doesn't have the standard Fujikura D4 50 gram "gold" shaft. This driver has a Grafalloy EPIC 68 shaft on it.

What I do know is that one is heavier (duh), but what I don't know and what I'm wary of is purchasing a driver with shaft that I have never hit. I'm hoping someone here could say "go for it" or "stay away" and give me the reasons so that I'm a bit more educated on it.

Thank you.

I'm sure some will disagree with me on this...but at your handicap, the difference in shaft won't make much of a difference.

As for weight, typically, heavier the shaft, the more control you have. Lighter shafts tend to be harder to control.

Now when you're at a point where you're hitting the driver with consistency and you are having issues controlling back spin and optimal ball trajectory, you can start worrying about the shaft. But for now, any driver will do so you can get your swing in the groove of things.
