After much daydreaming, deliberation, emails, PM's, and phone calls, my first custom putter is finally being made.

Lamont Mann of Sunset Beach Putters is making me a prototype based on the incredibly bad azz Sunset Beach Masonboro. While I love the look of the putter, when I saw it all I could think about was how much better it would look (to me) if the sharp lines were smoothed. I envisioned the hood of an old Corvette Stingray. Sleek mean lines that have no beginning nor end.

With Lamont's expertise and guidance, Bald Head was born. An island where my wife and I were married and just miles from our family vacation home, it was an easy name to decide on. Especially when you consider the copious smoothing being done to the head of the putter. Bald Head 001 was a natural choice to name this prototype.

This is a 1018 carbon flowneck putter and will have a good bit of material removed to suit my eyes. It will look like it is moving while at rest. After Lamont works his magic, it will be plated in a bright teflon/nickel finish. No sight line, just a circle on the misted top line. No paint fill anywhere on the putter. Weight will be around 335-340 grams with the removed material. I will post some pics of the completed project in 3-4 weeks.

Base for the project is a SSB Masonboro...

When dealing with someone as talented as Lamont, he can make anything. You just have to be able to convey what it is you want. For me, being that this is my first custom putter, that requires a great deal of consideration. Below is a picture I emailed Lamont. You know the saying is true, a picture is worth a thousand words. Ain't technology grand?

that putter looks SIIIICCCKKKK!!!!

cant wait to see the end result
always thought of a custom putter

i really want a custom MACHINE, similar to my Odyssy

maybe one day i will "treat" myself....

I looked at Machine, but they don't make their fixed (one piece) putters anymore. I don't care for the transformer approach with multiple pieces.

Got some pics today and below are two showing progress....

I'm scared to ask, how much? Would love to get a putter made exactly the way I want.

$360 and he will do what you want. This one was heavily modified as you can see. Same goes for the flowneck he is making now. Then a nickel bath. Lamont can do anything and he enjoys it. Sunset Beach has many models you can buy. Lamont is happy to modify them to suite your needs. That is the sole reason I went with Sunset Beach. Well, that and knowing about Lamont from previous customers. Seeing you are in Sidney, you might want to check out Kari Lajosi, he is in Melbourne. He is currently making my wife a custom putter and he, like Lamont, will do anything you can dream up. I am most impressed with my dealings with Kari at this point. Google Lajosi Putters. He was at the JB Were last week on the putting green and several of the pros picked up some Lajosi putters. He makes some really nice stuff. Go to the forum Puttertalk and you will see the sub-forum for Sunset Beach and Kari Lajosi, doing so will allow you to see many of their putters.

Thanks for the heads up, is 360 the price if he makes a putter that's different from whats on the website? I'd love a scotty squareback that's a bit bigger, I love mine but it's not a very forgiving putter. My bad puts are always on the heel.

All I know is what my putter cost. It is a prototype based on the Sunset Beach Masonboro putter. Shoot Lamont an email and tell him what you want. I am sure he can (will) do anything you want. His website is MannKrafted and he is in Arizona. Contact info (email) is on his website.

Crazy.... Would love to see a picture:) -Dan

Got some more pics tonight from Lamont. The flowneck is done and will be welded tomorrow. I went with half shaft offset and really like what Lamont has done here. After the neck is welded, she will be off to the nickel bath. Then a single black sight dot and she will be done. All other stamping will be naked. Looking forward to rolling some balls with this putter soon.
