I have always had this issue. I've learned to play with it and hit greens but my question is:

Is this a club fitting issue or swing issue? I've always used standard length clubs and I'm pretty tall, 6'2". And it seems like when I don't toe it a bit I hit big hooks and pulls. With the driver and 3 wood it isn't as big as issue. I miss some off the toe but it isn't every single one as with my irons and full wedge shots.

im 5 11 and when i had my club fitting they had to extend them 1.5 in and rebend them back to std

i still catch them on the toe once and awhile but my swing does feel alot better

thats because they are longer and your posture in more upright

I am no teaching pro but have dealt with this problem in the past and I found the following:

The most common cause of hitting off the toe is releasing the club early, the wrist unhinging and the right arm straightening too soon on the downswing. Players who do that tend to hit fat shots, so they learn to yank the club upward either by standing up or bending their left elbow. The problem is, both moves pull the club toward the body, closer then it was at address, which causes contact off the toe… Practice hitting punch shots…the shorter backswing and firmer wrist will promote a hands-leading impact position with a straight left arm. This helps maintain the radius of the swing so you bring the club to a fully extended impact position for center-face contact… Hope this helps…

Thanks for the replies guys.

The funny thing or odd thing is I think it has gotten worse but I am hitting more greens than ever. I have figured out how not to hit the big hook which really hurt me by pulling my arms back just a touch so I don't hit out at the ball. So for me right now it is kind of a pick your poison kind of thing. If I want to hit it pure and really fire through the ball I hit big hooks or I can loose a couple of yards, hit it straight and toe it every time. Obviously the second option is much more playable so that is my choice. I played saturday, hit nine greens, and didn't hit one iron shot from the center of the club. The two short par fives I got on the back fringe in two were pured, but one was a three wood and the other was a slightly pulled 4 iron. I can almost predict before I look up if I pured it I hit a terrible shot.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
