It was a cold one today, but even with a steady bone-chilling breeze, I had to get out there. After throwing on two shirts, a polar fleece, a jacket that's too big, and sunglasses to keep my eyes from watering it was go time.

My blog is mainly to track my progress this "summer". I took a couple lessons this spring (indoor obviously). The videos I got from my instructor are a good snapshot of where I am, and his comments gave me a few things to work on. When I get those things ingrained, I'll go back for a couple more lessons to take me to the next level - whatever that means.

A couple things I've realized after taking some videos outdoors:
1.) a proper video camera is a must. The resolution (or lack thereof) with my digital camera (Finepix S1000fd) makes troubleshooting my impact position nearly impossible. We have a better digital camera - great for stills - but it's heavier and the video's no better.

2.) It's going to take a while to properly incorporate what I worked on during the lessons into my natural swing. It's amazing how much you can feels like you're "doing it" but the video doesn't lie.

Below are videos of my Mizuno MP-11 6-iron (DTL and FO) and my PING G10 (DTL and FO) I'm not trying to kill the ball (obviously - my swing looks a tad lazy). I'm just trying to get a good shoulder turn - not there yet, but the festival of ill-fitting coats going on here didn't help. I took a couple swings my Apex chanelback 6-iron when I got home - checking natural setup in the mirror. I think my "go to" irons are perhaps too short for me!?!?!

Before the lessons, I saw what was right - now it's all about improvement. I could have adopted a whole new swing, but I still want to enjoy playing, so for now it's about standing a bit more upright (my torso and my head) and raising my hands during the setup, completing my shoulder turn, deep hands, not sliding on the takeaway, and ensuring I slide a smidgen to left a bit before releasing my hips - it sounds like a few things actually.
