Mixed up some practice with some scramble/par 3 course practice over the last few days.

Hit balls last Thursday and had a nice breakthrough. Found that cupping my left wrist at address, for some reason, really helped me square the clubhead with the driver. The feel I get is that I've "released" the club while at address, and hit helped me hit a lot more solid tee shots. Played in a little scramble on Friday with the wife, playing from the gold tees. I can say this was easily the best I've hit the ball off the tee (taking into consideration the format). Drove one green from 282yds, and averaged over 270 and straight for the round, only one shot offline was a push that wasn't too bad...just a tight fairway.

Saturday I hit balls with my father and had a similar experience, bombing driver with a little draw. Found that I have to slow down my hands a bit as I did hit a few ugly hooks. We played a little par 3 course on the way home in 30-40mph winds. This is the first time I'd tried some knockdown shots from 120yds, and found it to be pretty straightforward with a 7i. This will come in handy if it's ever that windy again, and for "trouble" shots in normal conditions. Put the ball back in my stance and used and abbreviated follow through. Missed most of the greens due to the wind, so had a good chance to work on the short game to TINY greens. Felt very good about some of the bump and runs I pulled off...still learning this technique. I still need to get more aggressive with flying any kind of ledge to the green, hit a few bumps into an upslope that left the ball well short. Pitches with my 52* were very solid, feeling better technique-wise now that I'm rocking my shoulders to hit these shots. All in all a good couple days of practice.

Also, found a 13* CB2 w/95S Grafalloy Prolaunch Blue that is a CANNON, and got it for a steal from a local course back home. I have a 15* CB1, but the strong 3 is ridiculously long and feels better then the 65g NV in the 15*. Will be interesting to try this on the course.

    • I assume you are posting 15 or 16 holes and letting the USGA algorithm insert projected scores for the missing holes. How is that going? Are the projected scores reasonable? I have yet to do this.
    • You're right. I haven't really had an issue with this before, but it's definitely worth closing the legs a bit to see what happens. I've had 2 of these and never had this problem before. About 5 years of use between the 2. It's really odd. Yeah, I've always had a bit of inconsistency and misreads, but this is a new level. I did a baseline session last night, and all my of stack speeds had decreased by roughly 5-10 mph (with me throwing out the obvious garbage readings). Weirdly, the driver speed actually seemed to be right where I expected it. I guess maybe it's having trouble with the smaller head of the stack vs. a driver? Whatever it is, I think it's time for me to go with the stack radar.
    • @DeadManI used to use the Swing Speed radar and, in hindsight, it seems very unreliable.  As @iacassaid, it's prone to misplacement, and I'd sometimes get wildly different speeds from swing-to-swing: like a 103mph, followed by 118mph, then a 102mph, then a 114mph.  I didn't know any better at the time and thought that was normal.  I've since upgraded radars and the new speeds seem much more accurate/consistent. Also, Mike Carroll (FFG) used to have the SSR and he now calls it a 'random number generator'.
    • I have it. Works good. As all things electronics, there are analog elements that can 'weaken' like the microwave signal emitting/receiving or the contact between it and conversion module, etc. Might be time for a new one.     P.S. I've had it for a few years. Other than replacing the battery haven't had any periods of wild reads.
