It's a crime that I was calling my swing a "stack and tilt" swing all these past couple months. It's not. At all. Period. My swing sucks, and I'm a little bit in shock over what I just saw to be quite honest.

When iacas says "feel isn't real," Or that you need to "over-exaggerate changes like crazy to actually only make a very small change" (I'm paraphrasing), he is 100% dead on, on the money, correct.

My swing flaws are glaring.

My takeaway is almost Hank Haney-esque. I thought I was taking them back deep as hell, but I'm not at all. I actually do a pretty good job of keeping the club head on plane and not behind me, but other than that, my takeaway stinks.

I have the exact same move Zeph does on his backswing where he dips his head forward. I think that means I have to extend my spine more in order to keep my head in place. My spine angle has to change or else I'm screwed.

The one thing that I've actually really improved a lot on is reducing my flip at impact. I filmed my swing back in 2008 and when I watched it again recently, I had this horrendous flip going on. At least today, my flip was greatly reduced, but it's definitely still there. My arms don't extend nearly enough on the through swing and I come off the plane almost immediately after impact.

Ugh, where do I start first I wonder. I think I'm going to mega-exaggerate the deep hands thing, and really try to extend the hell out of my spine on the backswing the next time I work on stuff.

If you suck at golf and you've never filmed your swing, take a penny's worth of free advice and drop $250 on a sick camera. It'll be a horror show, but damn it, it'll open your eyes. After that, on the downswing, in addition to improve my hip slide, I need the shaft of the club to bisecting the correct part of my right biceps on the way down. It's too high and I'm pretty sure it's one of the things that promotes an over the top strike. I can't work on everything at once obviously, and I won't.

If nothing else, I should be happy I just saw about a million freakin' things that I can work on. To be honest, I'm in shock right now. I know, I know, I should already know my swing stinks. But it really stinks, and all the progress I thought I was making clearly is not there when watching at 240 frames per second. The truth hurts, but the truth will also set you free as they say. I'm hoping the latter follows the former.

PS- I bought the EX-FH100 Casio. It's pretty solid. No complaints so far. Thanks for recommendation, iacas.

Exactly why everyone needs to film their swing. First time I saw it about a year ago, I was in shock. Most people on here who have seen my swing videos and tell me how ugly my swing is are people who haven't seen their own. Go down to a driving range and watch people hit balls for an hour, and tell me how many pretty swings you see. Not many.

Filming your swing is like eating a big old humble pie. It's not tasty, but it's very filling. Keep working at it, and it will get prettier.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Shanks. I'm slowly coming out of the shell shock now. Looking over the video clips I have from today again, I'm really seeing a lot of possible solutions to the problems. I should've bought this camera a few months ago. Better late than never though they say.

    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
