Today was the final MGA (Men's Golf Association) tournament for 2010. Again, I really, really enjoy tournament golf. This is only the second tournament I have played in, so I was nowhere near close enough in points to win the cherished MGA Champion's Parking spot up front for 2011. The cool feature in this tournament was, that after all the guys played their 18 hole tournament round, the top 10 scores + ties get to play in a 9 hole shoot out. Well, I didnt play very well and shot an 85 gross (76 net) in the morning. I ended up in 9th place overall out of 20 guys.

After we have lunch in the club house 12 guys head to the 10th tee and everyone places bets in a Calcutta. I put $10 on myself and another member put a $10 bet on me. I like the format because on the 10th hole, 3 guys are knocked off, then one guy gets knocked off after each hole until there are only 2 left on 18. Another part I like, is that all the guys from the morning, and their wives, and a few other guys who normally play all drive the carts down the sides of the fairway and park around the greens. Looks just like a real tournament. On the 10th green I held out my hand and it was shaking pretty good. I dont know how these pro's can play with all the people watching. By the 15th hole my nerves had subsided and I was having a great time. This morning I showed up wearing a white belt as part of my attire, and one particular buddy was giving me some crap saying I looked terrible (we always jab each other and have money on the side). He ended up finishing 4th so he was in the Shootout with me.

I didnt play exceptionally well, but I played well enough to advance......every time. On the 12th hole I made a bogey and ended up having to do a chip off with another guy who also made bogey. The MGA president chooses a spot by the green and I had to face the other way so I couldn't see how his chip ended up. They mark his ball with a dirty penny and tell me to hit it close. I chipped it to about 4ft and they said I was closer, so I advanced. That was really the only time I was in trouble. Someone else shot their way out of the hole, or I was safe with my par and watched everyone else chip off. I made it to the Par 5 18th hole and my opponent hit his 3rd shot into the lake, so all I had to do was hit over the lake, onto the green and two putt for the win. Well I got on the green and my partner 2 putted for a 7. I sat over my 20 footer and eased it up for a tap in win. Felt great. I ended up winning $150 from the Calcutta (had to split it with the guy who also bought me) and $120 for winning the shootout from the MGA President. I think I shot a +4 on the back, so it wasn't great, but good enough. Ill end up getting my name on a plaque in the men's card room. Today alone brought me back to + on my winnings for the year. Cant wait till next month when we play our 4 club tourney.

Congrats man. I actually have my first tourney of the year tom so I'm really excited. This will be my third tourney but my first to were team tournys so this will be my first one on my own. Its a Mulligans tourney where we get one mulligan a hole and the tourny is @ 50 % hc. So I should be getting 15 strokes and a mulligan per hole. Im hoping to do pretty well since my ball stirking has been improving alot over last couple weeks since ive been hitting more fairways and not having to try and hit hero shots.

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
