I was wondering if someone could tell me which has sharper groove aka more bite (or are they all the same). I’m new to these improved super spin wedges and I just purchased a 60 degree wedge with PM grind and MD grooves. For the most part it’s not to my liking, but those grooves are making it hard not to like. It eats up range balls like crazy, so I can only imagine what they’ll do to a ProV1. So getting to the point I love the playability and feel of Vokeys, but REALLY love the new shot that this X tour wedge gives me. You know the 2 bounce check to a dead stop chip shot.

The X tour feels lighter in the head and 11 degrees of bounce kind of bugs me when I open up the face. So I’m switching back to Vokeys I guess.

Thanks in advance.

hey i just purchased a vokey sm 56 to replace a 56 x-tour pmgrind wedge. Like you i loved the spin that the md grooves gave, no pin was safe...but anyways i found that besides the spin that the md grooves give you, the vokey wedges are far better. The spin milled still tear up pro-v's, and i find them much more comfotable in my hands (heavier head weight, much nicer looking). I think the md grooves spin the ball more, but nothing ive tried comes close to a vokey

You must have gotten a special wedge cause the x-tour pm grind wedges only come in 58* and 60*. I own a 50*, 56*, and 60*pm. I personally like these wedges I agree the bounce gets to be a little much but I will deal with it because of the amount of control I gain! As nice as the vokeys are I think the x tours are the way to go!

MD grooves are crazy. If you are like me and new to pitching the ball at the flag instead of bumping it, then you need all of the help that you can get with respect to spin? This shot is surely a crowd pleaser and a life saver with not a lot of green to work with. But like everyone else has said MD grooves eat up balls worse than Spin Milled. Anything more than a ½ wedge shot and you’ll be picking out pieces of your pro V1 cover.

I’ve been playing my Callaway wedge and added lead tape to bring up the swing weight. Now the weight feels good, but I am still thinking about adding an M grind and see how it plays.

-bogey golfer

my bad i meant a 58 x-tour, and my spin milled wedge is a 54. and yea the md grooves ruin golf balls, but theyre still alot of fun to hit.

-my x-tour was the "vintage" finish, and my spin milled is the normal chrome, does anyone know if a rusted finish affects spin, i know that rust can give better feel but im not sure what it does to the spin.

    • I've got the watch, since I'm left handed in everything except golf I wear watches on my right hand. From Shot Scope the suggestion was to wear it on my right hand but tell the unit that I'm a left handed golfer so it could try and pick up the tags better. I was already used to tagging when I had Game Golf and manually selecting on my Samsung watch with a prior app, so I just tap the sensor to the watch band before each shot and haven't had a single issue of it double counting or anything so far through 45 holes.

    • Those old club restorations looks beautiful!
    • He does club fitting at another location.  I thought there were a lot of people that were fans of learning from the hole outwards.  When you are a 50 year old beginner like me, making contact and making it go pretty straight is a far different side of the spectrum that fatting it, thinning it, whiffing it, etc.  He has been instructing for 30 years.  I have been to 4 PGA teaching professionals.  Not a single one of them looked at me gripping the club, saying it was fine, etc.  Isn't the grip the only thing that connects the player to the club?  I don't even have a consistent full swing yet, not sure measuring for lie angle and that stuff would matter at this point.  Thanks you all.
