Hey, I need to get better balance in my swing, specifically at the end when I am following through and to hold my finish more. I find I am not quite in balance at the end of my swing the way I would like to be.

Any comments or drills or tips or suggestions are welcomed!

I've got one of those balance boards, you know the ones with a ball beneath.  If I would just use it consistently I'm sure it would make a big difference to my game.  Balance is SO important in golf.  Often I'm off balance at the end of the stroke.  When I really hit it pure, almost always I'm balanced at the finish.  Often when I've chunked the ball a bit, it's because I've let my weight move too far towards my toes.

So I'm saying, try a balance board - and stick with it.

Stretching, one legged squats, yoga, etcetera. Look up some wintersports workouts (i.e. hockey, snowboarding . . .) as they seem to have a strong core and balance focus.

I strongly recommend widening your feet position on the ground. Especially on drives your feet should be parallel to your shoulders. This will provide better balance.

I have been doing yoga since the beginning of November and it has made a huge difference in improving my balance throughout the swing.

You can get an 8 lb. medicine ball and search for golf balance exercises - they're all over the web.

I find that when I lose balance it's because I was swaying or trying to hit the ball too hard, not because I have balance issues in general.

When I find myself occasionally going off balance, I narrow my stance somewhat and it forces me to either control my swing or fall backwards.  Since I don't want to fall backwards, I am forced to correct my swing motion.  Many times, poor balance is caused by concentrating too much on hitting (smashing) the ball into the next county.  Concentrate more on a correct swing motion, rather than how the shot will turn out and yu should be more in control.  Try it and good luck.

If you don't have a balance board you can use couch pillows.  Put two on the floor one for each foot.  Take swings as you normally would just remember that you are elevated so don't try to hit the ground.  The firmer the pillow the tougher.  Its a cheap alt. to a balance board.

Also work on your core as well (abs, hips, butt, and hamstring).

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
