If you could only play a round with 5 clubs what would they be...?

2. 3hi (20*)

3. 8 iron

4. Gap wedge (52*)

5. Putter

I might switch the 3hi for a 5 iron based on course length and conditions.

Driver, hybrid, 6 iron, 9 iron, and sand wedge would be standard 5 clubs. Really would depend on the course.

This.  I'd forego a putter as well, putt with the wedge...  Option 2 would be ditch the 9i and SW and put in a PW and putter... probably go with option 1 though.

I don't understand ditching the putter. I couldn't bear to play without the #1 scoring club in the bag. I can piece together a short game or a long game, but blaming every missed putt on using a wedge seems dumb to me.

If it was me, I would play Driver, 3h, 6 iron, 52*, putter.

I'd putt with my wedge. It's not that hard to putt with a wedge as long as you've had some practice. Ideally for these less than full bag matches, I am looking to pick clubs that will give me a chance to hit as many GIR or just be off the green. So I'd like to spread out the long clubs and trust my short game on the sand wedge/9-iron.

      By today’s standards that’s certainly true, but they weren’t having any trouble hitting golf balls in 2005 so I’ve equipped myself with what was among the very best equipment around that time for a very reasonable investment. If I get to the point where I feel like I’ve outgrown that stuff, I’ll reward myself with something more current. But for now I don’t need adjustable loft and lie and modern head shape, just a good quality, proven club with a clean club face. For now I’m going to concentrate on the basics. I know you can get more yardage with newer woods, but I don’t care about distance nearly as much as consistency, and you can’t buy that for any price.

      Trying to feel bit more external rotation of the trail elbow at A4. I think better than what have ever been able to position it.  Forward lunge at impact still a work in progress.

      Because you're twisting it to hold it open. Forearms, etc. shouldn't be all that tense at setup.
