I am looking to buy a club on ebay, its a ping. The seller will not give me the serial number even though his feedback is quite in fact very good. Ive been told not to buy the club if they dont give me the SN, I wont buy the club until I get it, however why would a seller not want to give the SN? Is there other reasons then the club might be fake? Thanks.

I believe I saw this on eBay.  They said they don't give out SN's.  I'd shy away from that, even though he did state it is a valid number and would be confirmed by Ping AFTER you win the auction.  I have no reason why he wouldn't give out the number.  Sounds pretty shady to me.

Is it absolutely necessary to have the SN to buy a club?

Only IF you want to be sure the club is not a fake.  There are fake clubs out there.

I wouldn't buy it.... maybe the club is in a different location and that is why he can't get it to you right now, but I'd still not buy it.

I guess as a small concern, I would mention that even if it has a "valid" serial number, it may still be counterfeit.  The number may exist in the system, but if they look it up it may be registered to maybe a blue dot +1/2" length, whereas what you're holding is a black standard.  Despite counterfeiters being slightly lazy, sometimes they can still be ahead of the curve :P

Keep shopping. Only a fool would buy these clubs. No reason at all for not giving you the serial number. FYI, Callaway preowned is selling some iron sets 40% off. Like new on that site is brand new. I almost bought a set of 2009 X forged for $380 today. I resisted as I am lusting after some Miura irons. But awesome deals no doubt at the moment on Callaway preowned.
