For me, the shanks start when I swing with just my arms and then fire my hips way ahead. It's laziness/fatigue and if I had video of myself I'd probably vomit at how hard I'm trying to compensate. I work 12 hour night shifts and I have to be really careful when going to the range after work. If I get up to 75-100 balls it starts, 100% of the time. I've also had this happen after rounds. I've gone to the range and just shank the crap out of a bucket. I still go to the range a lot and hit before a round.

I have the same problem.  I'd like to blame it on being a long-time baseball player but in reality its fatigue that gets me late in a round as well.

I returned to the scene of the crime today ... 48 hours later, and everything was fine.  It was a very good session. The first 10 minutes, I just focused on keeping my left wrist flat during my swing (my most recent change) and keeping a good rhythm in general.

The posts I read on this site and in this thread in particular really helped b/c I realized I hadn't forgotten all my progress in a few minutes. Also, it's now clear that after 30 or so minutes of consistent shanks, you're just tired and you need to keep it moving to either the putting green or just go home.

**edit** btw, I used this Sean O'Hair explanation (from another thread) of his load-up and swing to help simplify what I was doing:
