Waterlogging & affect on scoring

Here in the UK, now that the really cold weather has stopped for a while, it's just raining every day.

I played at my course yesterday and had trouble on quite a few holes whereby I'm within chipping distance, I play my shot and see it die the moment it hits the green because of hidden water on the green.  Other times, I'd try and flop it straight at the flag only to see it hit a non-waterlogged part of the green and see the ball run on for another 2-3 yds leaving me a tricky put for par.

Do you just accept this is golf in the winter and getting within 5-6 shots of your handicap is a realistic goal or do you (like me) end up feeling frustrated at the end of the round?

Consistently wet weather makes for tricky golf that is certain. It offers more of a challenge when normally easy shots are complicated by standing water or just wet grass.  My opinion is it is fun and you can learn from it but it isn't for everyone. I'm a high handicapper so it doesn't make a lot of difference to me that I'm over on wet days. It is my choice to go out on days like that though since they are rare here in Florida.

I usually expect to shoot higher when it is wet. I'm a high handicapper anyway so I expect it.

To be honest I find it even outs if your having a good round. You might have a drive that is stopped from going OB because it is wet, you can be more aggressive on putts or you might get relief from casual water that helps etc.   - Lots of GOOD things can happen on wet course along the the bad.

I always shoot BETTER scores than I should when the course is wet/soft. Your ball basically stops at or near where it lands (including with driver) and you can fire at almost every pin without thinking twice.
