What are peoples experience with these shafts?  I'm looking specifically at the YS+, Tour AD YSQ and the Aura gold (all mid launch shafts).  I would like to upgrade my 909 from the 'made for' diamana BB with a premium shaft and these are reasonably priced (I want to keep costs down).  Also, am I right in thinking the titleist BB shaft is a mid launch/spin or mid-low?

I have an old 983 driver with the YS-6 shaft in it and it is perfect (I still use it).  I guessed on the shaft at the time, and it is a perfect combination with the head.  I used another driver with the same shaft for a while and it just wasn't the same.  I think that had more to do with my swing and the driver head.  I sold that club to a friend and he loved it with the head/shaft combo.

At a demo day last spring, I hit the 909 drivers in a variety of shafts.  The best one for me was the YSQ.  If I had the money, I would have purchased one on the spot.  It was the first combination that equaled the feel and performance with the 983.  Hard to describe, but the feel was just as good as the YS-6, but just felt a little sturdier and more precise.  It was a much better match for me in the 909 than any of the other shafts they had.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Recently tried the Tour AD YSQ in my Nickent Evolver.  My swing speed is in between most companies' R vs. S so I've tinkered a lot (nice to have an adjustable driver from a bankrupt company...i've got ~6 shafts acquired from eBay).  The YSQ (stiff) to me felt too stiff, & launched a little lower compared to some others' stiff shafts (such as the UST Proforce V2).

Maybe a regular would have been right for me, and maybe evaluating shafts in 35-degree weather isn't smart as no golf ball flies that far/high, but at least until the weather warms up, i'm going back to the Aldila DVS-regular!

I have Cobra Speed LD F 3 and 5 woods. They both have the Tour AD YS+ FW shafts in them and feel totally awesome. If my TM Superfast 3 wood didn't give me an extra 10 yards and feel even better than the Cobra, I would still use it. Two  clubs I probably won't ever get rid of.

I found the YS+ and YSQ to play soft to stated flex and the Throttle series to play on the firm side. The 1st 2 fit a variety of different swings IMO.

    • I’ve been rather surprised how my original question relating to the logic behind “differential vs course handicap” elicited the responses expressed on this thread so far. I suppose it shows that there are many who have given this subject a lot of thought. I personally like the current system for the same reasons stated in the post by saevel25 and it works very well in our league. I just needed to get the reasoning/logic clear in my head so I could explain it succinctly to those who had questions. Regarding the ongoing discussion, the only tweak we make is only the scores made in league competition count. (We don’t use GHIN, we do the calculation ourselves.) The only additional thought I had is perhaps the powers that be can come up with a method, when doing the differential calculation, of giving greater weight to the rounds played more recently than those from 20 rounds ago. I’ve been testing this with an idea I had similar to the way colleges calculate GPA’s based on credits offered by different classes, but honestly, the complexity it adds to the calculation isn’t worth the trouble as any change made has proven to be inconsequential.
