Right now I am using a Nike Dymo-Squared Driver.  I bought it used about a year ago before I really knew my swing and much about golf equipment.  The square head is awkward for me, and the head always felt too big and heavy.  It was like a top-heavy pendulum when I swung it.

I am looking into purchasing an old Nike Ignite 410cc driver.  I think the smaller clubhead would promote more control of the club and workability I am currently looking for.  I also don't really think much distance would be lost, as I've always felt like I was losing so much swing speed with the larger head and awkward clubhead design.

Obviously, the stuff isn't free, so I was wondering whether anyone had an opinion whether this is a good idea, and even worth it?

Thanks and after a long hiatus,

Adam

Based on what you said, I think you would be better served to look into something like the Nike SQ 460 Tour. You will have better luck working the ball yet it will still have some forgiveness. This club was played by several of the tour guys after newer nike drivers came out. Should be able to get one for close to the selling price of your dymo. Just a thought. Good luck.

Yeah I think so. The square head is just perimeter weighting for a driver...adding forgiveness and removing some workability. I personally like that so when I sold my sq 5900 I got a square machspeed. Gives me the ability to hit a draw, yet aids in shots that are less than desirable.

You may get more accuracy out of that switch if you have the club head speed, but many people recommend going with the weakest shaft you can control to add distance.  You mentioned that you thought you were losing some clubhead speed with the larger head, you could look into something like the new round Machspeed Black, Adams Fast 10, or Burner Superfast for something that is considered more aerodynamic. All that technology really only produces 5 yds or so from what I understand, but I think they are decent drivers as well.  It seems like the new Nike VR is trying reach out to the shot shaping crowd while also upping its distance performance.  If I were you I would go into a pro shop or chain store with a launch monitor and keep an open mind.  Tell them what you want to accomplish and see what they recommend.  After hitting 5 or so drivers you will get the feel for whether you want a smaller clubhead, stiffer shaft, or something that is adjustable.  I give this advice and never use it myself, so I suppose I am a bit of a hypocrite in that regard but I enjoy buying and selling clubs, so it's no big deal for me to rotate clubs till I find what I want (and I get to use it in an actual round).  Launch monitors are great, but it is nice to see your ball flight.

This post was a bit of a mixed bag and i apologize for that, but hopefully it was somewhat insightful.
