In the "Core Performance Golf" book by Mark Verstegen, they talk about regeneration of the muscles, that is usually massages.. In there they have trigger point massages with a tennis ball. Well i decided to give it a shot today since my back and neck was tight from sleeping awkwardly. I would have to say, amazing, just amazing..

for the neck, i basically laid on my back, but you can probably do this sitting down. I took the tennis ball in one hand and basically moved it around just below were the skull turns under at the top of the neck. See the image in the link for a better graphic. I had neck pain in the base of my neck, massaging the upper location relieved that pain. Usually stiff muscles and sore backs (not from working out) are usually caused by the main nerve for that location firing. Like if you have a sciaitic nerve problem you will feel numbness  down your leg. Most people would think its the issue with the side of the leg, but its the nerve above it.

For 50% of back issues,  This location is were the lower part of the rib cage meets the spine, just below it. You will definetly know when you hit this point because you feel the pressure big time. I was shocked, i had to stop from how intense the sensation was when i hit that trigger point. What i did was basically just used my body weight to massage that point. Laying on the ground.

For the other 50%, when i said most of the time back pain is caused by whats above it, sometimes back pain can be instability in the gluts as well.. This point is just bellow the back, its the highest point on the glut.

This is for those who have sciatic nerve problems,

Just incase you get cramps in the arch of your foot, try this before the round to loosen up that arch, you can do this with a golf ball, but the harder the ball the deeper the massage.
