Perhaps there is a secret longing in me to be an intellectual property attorney (uggh, that sounds sick, doesn't it?), but I enjoy reading up on patents granted, particularly bizarre ones.       Here is a website that highlights golf patents through the years: http://www.patentlygolf.com/ A couple of my favorites:

HEEL MOUNTED SAND TRAP RAKE FOR GOLF SHOES    US5109617

“ there is often frustration in that the rake may be missing...easily adjusted to be readily accepted and used.”

GOLF BALL AND TEE POSITIONER   US5330178

“ apparatus is provided for placing a golf ball and a tee in the ground”.

Amusing - but looks like lots of folks don't understand the concept of a "swing aid" being used on the course.  A buddy of mine (who is an avid fisherman) and I argue about whether golf or fishing has the most contraptions available.  Pretty close to a toss up but this web site might help me win the next argument!

Go to the USPTO website and do a search for "golf" and "aid" and you'll win that argument every time.    I'd guess that more weird and unusual devices have patents granted or applied for in golf more than any other sport.   Probably more than all other sports combined!
