I was playing a simulator round tonight (it's Canada, best I can do right now) and my driver suddenly went all noodly/whippy on me.  The first few holes it was normal and then suddenly I lost about 40 yards and it started slicing to the right.  This happened 2 holes in a row and I thought it was me but my next drive I took with my playing partners driver and I was back to normal.

At this point I noticed that my driver shaft was incredibly flexible compared to before (and definitely more so compared to my partners (both regular flex Taylormade Burner 09).  I've had this happen with flyrods but I didn't think a golf club would have this happen where it suddenly loses it's backbone.

Is this a common thing?  I assume my only remedy is either a new shaft or a new driver.  My driver swing speed has been inching towards 100mph so maybe I should also take the opportunity to move to a stiff shaft?

i'm confused as to whether this is a question about your "virtual shaft" or real shaft.  I've never heard of such a thing happening.  Not even with a fly rod.  Did you recently start a steroid regiment?

I took my driver to the Golf Town pro shop today and they did some kind of frequency test or something and found that it was indeed out of spec.  The guy also commented that it felt 'spongy' to him as well.  After watching my swing in the simulator he picked out a new stiff shaft to get installed and I should be good as new when I get it back.

So I had to spend ~$100CAD but at least I found out the problem wasn't in my head.  I'm sure that's much more expensive to fix!
