I've recently decided to purchase new irons, and I've settled on Nike Slingshots. However, I can't decide whether to purchase the Tours or the OSS. I'm a 12-15 handicap, and so I'm having trouble deciding what clubs would be the best for my game. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I tour version is designed for the better player in mind. The CG is higher and closer to the face for more workablity, and a smaller offset. Plus they have True Temper gold flex shafts, which has a higher flex point then the shafts that come with on the OSS. I would suggest that you go to a Nike Auth Dealer and get fitted.. You could come and see me however Im in Germany. If your up for some time off then come on over!!

Here's ANOTHER Nike you might want to think about....the CPR iron set! They come in a set of 5 thru PW and two hybrids that replace the long irons. I bought these when I was a 15 and now I'm an 8 and a lot of the credit goes to these clubs. VERY easy to hit and they get the ball up in the air FAST...and really stick on the greens! The hybrids are fantastic. They are designed to get the ball in the air as well, and I can hit an approach shot from 180 and the ball will STICK on the green like I hit an 8 iron!

I'm average size and weight and 52 years old. Long gone are my days of "working" the ball left to right, right to left, etc. Now days I just hit everything STRAIGHT....and that's fun! The hybrids in my bag are 18*, 22*, and 26*, with my irons 5 thru PW. I like the hybrids so much I just ordered a 30* to replace my 5 iron. The hybrids are short and you hit them like an iron, but they just get in the air FAST and BITE when they hit the green.

Unconventional? Maybe so...but when my scorecard reads 77 instead of 89 it's enough proof for me that they are the right clubs...at least for me!

PS: I saw the same set at SportsMart for $499...so if you shop around you can get a good deal. I'm not saying these are THE only clubs for you, but you really owe it to yourself to at least TRY them before investing in a set of clubs.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

    • Day 622 - 2026-06-16 Played 16 holes. We skipped 10 and 11. Backswing is good. Most of the time.
    • Day 287 6-16 Full, fast swings with controlling low point. Did ok just wasnt feeling it tonight. Recorded swing, no ball.
    • I'm good with the bunkers, and the fairways are SUPER wide. Three yards should stop a ball that isn't landing in it from rolling into the hay.
    • I'm a little behind, but I just finished listening to the episode about practicing while on vacation.  I have two vacations coming up this month that I won't be bringing golf clubs with me on, and this was perfectly timed (I'm sure I am not the only one going on vacation in June).   Especially the part about stretching.  I keep putting off adding stretching, with golf in mind, to my daily routine.  I think I'm going to use these upcoming vacations, the first of which I'm flying off to on Thursday, as a way to get into this habit.   For anyone else interested, Fit For Golf (see sidebar) has fantastic stretching routines (some of which, I think, are on their free area).  I really should get back to doing their main exercises too.  I don't have any affiliation with them beyond "satisfied customer," in case that sounds like an ad. I may end up posting in the 5 minutes thread when I do golf stretches if it's my only practice that day... as if I don't already sound like a broken mp3 with my 10-15 minutes hitting indoors part. And back to the topic:  anyone not caught up on the podcast should consider catching up and listen to that episode, especially if you're going on a non-golf vacation this summer and want some practice ideas that aren't the at-home practice routine from LSW about long bunker shots (which I am sure we all do regularly).
    • Mostly pull cuts to slices. Some random pull draw/hooks pending of I hit the toe.
