i have a ping g5 driver and have just purchased a grafalloy prototype hot pink shaft for it, it came today from america and the tip size is .335" , i took it to the pro shop this morning before work to see if he could fit it, and he mentioned something about whether the shaft wil fit into the hosel on the driver, just realised by looking on the internet that the shaft requirment for my G5 is .350" does this make it impossible to have it fitted or could something be done???

i dont want to have to send the shaft all the way back to america to have it changed, any replies appreciated

sounds like your options are what can your pro shop do to help you out, go back on line and make a list of the drivers that use that size of tip and sell it to someone that can use it, buy a new head that will fit your shaft and use it or sell it as a complete driver, return it to get the right shaft and be happy if it's the right shaft for you. Now you learned before you order a part make sure it's the right one. The cost of shipping to and from the United States may not be worth the extra cash since you've paid for it once already.

its all ok now, emailed a place that do special treatment, they said its easily done, all they need to do is fit an adaptor and this lets you fit .335 shaft onto a .350 hosel. thanks anyway golf chief, they said it can be done and returned for £19

Let us know how it works after you play a couple of rounds with it. Not much room for an adaptor with only a .015 gap.

golfchief,

.015 is plenty of room for an adaptor, they work seamlessly. I have never had an adaptor (what I use for FT-3's), or brass shim (what I use for all other clubs) ever fail on a customer or myself. Shimming a club is a very well established and accepted method of using a smaller diameter shaft in a larger hosel.

    • LIV golf was pretty close to me in 2023, at the same course that hosted the 2023 Senior PGA.  I didn't go to either one.  I do know a few people who went to the LIV event, and they said it was pretty well attended and pretty well run.  If I had free tickets, I might show up, but I'd probably have to drive 10 miles to park to get a shuttle to come back to within 5 miles of my house.
    • As long as "in town" means a drive of less than an hour, I'd probably go.  I've never actually been to a pro golf event, so it would be a novelty. Presumably, they'd be playing on a course that I'm not normally allowed to visit, so there would be an interest in just going to see the place. My tolerance for traffic is pretty minimal, so if massive headaches are predicted it would dampen my enthusiasm.
    • I would definitely buy tickets and go watch a round or two.
