I am starting a campaign.  I understand that it's going to be an uphill battle!

I think that the Ryder Cup, and other Ryder Cup-like competitions, should eliminate the alternate shot part and replace it with a two man scramble format.

Yes, I get the tradition part of how it is now.  Yes, I get the strategy part of it.

But the entertainment value out of watching a scramble overrides that in my mind. Also, how many of us can relate to the alternate shot?  Have you ever played in that format?  If so, how often?  I doubt anyone is going to say anything other than "very rarely".

Now, hold up your hand if you've ever played in a scramble?  Wouldn't it be cool to have some official rules as to how to play it? Also, I have always wondered what the pros could score in the format.  14 under?  17 under? 19 under?

You know there is a lot of team work involved in scrambles.  There is also lots of strategy involved in putting a team together.  Think about how hard the captains would have to work to get the optimum pairings together.

It's just a goofy thought I had.

I find that alternate shot foursomes blow scrambles out of the water for entertainment value. I don't play in 72 hole stroke play tournaments either, but that doesn't make the majors less entertaining.

alternate shot works better for two teams against each other. Most of us have played scramble more than alternate shot because scramble works for a large golf outing, not really one team against the other.
