I have a dilemma. I am 25 now. I played competitively in highschool and continued playing until 5 years ago. Handicap was down to a 7. Havent played in 5 years but want to start up again. Ive been to the driving range 5 or 6 times and it feels like i never quit playing, still making solid contact and hitting them straight. went to roger dunn and tried out the burner 2.0 superfast woods and irons, the razr woods and irons, and the titleist irons.

hit the burners ridiculously well and LONG, hit the razrs solid, and had some luck with the ap2. all things being equal, what irons will serve me good now and as i start to play more, and better.

I murdered the ball with the burner 2.0 driver but all the options on the razr have me questioning whether or not to go with the burner or razr.

opinions?

i want to get clubs that will last me a few seasons and appreciate all of your help

You can't go wrong with an of those clubs. Its all about what you like looking down at, and what makes you feel confident. I personally like the Taylormade woods over the Callaways, but only due to looks. As far as irons go, I would get a nice set of cavity backs with shafts that fit you. Same for the woods. Make sure that you are hitting the right shafts.

Burners are only long because they're standard to a stronger degree than other clubs. ie. their 7 iron is like a normal 6 iron

Take that into account.

And they're longer in total length than everyone else, too boot (a Taylormade trademark, to sell distance).  It sounds like you have pretty good hand-eye coordination, as that extra length and lower loft isn't hurting you like it would the average golfer.  But all things being equal, there won't be much difference between any of them, so it comes down to what you like to see at address, hear at impact ("feel" is interrelated to sound, and is different for everyone) and that the new sticks are properly fitted.  Brand doesn't matter- that's a personal choice.

    • Still plugging away with the teacher.  I do have a question after working on some drills last night. This is something I should know already but for some reason, I have gotten myself confused. It deals with weight transfer on the downswing. At what point, should that take place?  Should it be early (prior to reaching A4) ?  I ask because in one of my drills  I get to A4, I feel the weight transfer AS my arms drop, and then go.  Now this may be totally normal, but I "feel" like this gets me in a weird timing position and causes me to try and do too much at once.
    • Tentatively in for at least one of those days. My job situation is a bit up in the air at the moment so need to get that sorted out first then I'll know more for sure or not.
