This is a good solution. At my home course any tee-time before 9:30-10:00 on Sat or Sun mornings the pace is sub 4 hrs. But this is kinda a local thing and not formalized by the club. It works out well as most players at my club know competitive rounds are played in the mornings and the afternoon rounds are more casual. Keeps everybody happy.

It would be nice if courses like Bethpage could formalize expectations like Angel Park did. That way, if someone like myself did fly out to NY, spend the money on a hotel, and all the other expenses I wouldn't have to rush through a round on a famous course that I know only from TV. Keeps the sub 4's happy and keeps the 4.5's happy as well.

I would guess on most busy courses the first few groups are fast anyways, so this would be like saying young singles in a rush who don't cook, you can go in the supermarket express line 5 items or less no matter what. If a complex has 2 or more courses, why not do more and make open to 1pm express time? You don't have to make it 3:45, stagger it. open to 9: 3:45 9 to 11: 4:00 11 to 1: 4:15 I think this would work in a complex like Bethpage State Park, with 5 18 hole courses.

Interesting concept, like a HOV lane on the freeway.  It does cater to the faster players, although the below quote in the article needs to fully known to the players:

"Angel Park’s staff reserves the right to make groups skip holes or move to the other course if they’re not maintaining the proper pace".

This could really negatively impact the player's experience - the pace of play needs to be understood if this program is to be successful.

All in all, sounds like a good thing for the faster player out there.
