Hey guys, I was hoping I could get a few ideas from people about a few possible issues with my irons.  I play a 2-9 cleveland ta2 set w/ DGS-300 that are adjusted to 2 degrees upright and 1/2" longer than stock (6'0" tall).

So here are my questions...

Because my irons are all 1/2" longer than stock, does that reduce the flex rating for the shaft?  I feel like I hit my iron shots, especially my longer ones higher and shorter than I feel I should be hitting them.  My swing speed with a Driver is around 95 mph.

I'm considering putting new shafts in the clubs or just buying new irons all together next year and I was wondering if going with the x100 might be a good idea?  Or perhaps switching to Project X's but not sure of what flex?

Or a cheaper alternative would be to shorten my irons (increasing the flex rating???) and possibly adjusting all lie's to 3-4 degrees up.

And finally if anyone has any recommendations on what I should perhaps upgrade too?  Something of similar style (player's cavity, forged, minimal offset, solid feel)

Thanks in advance

You should post that swing.

I used Cleveland TA1 FF (3-P) for most of last season and I purchased a set of Cleveland TA3 FF (3-P) this winter off ebay. Both sets have DG S300. Even though I can't say they're anything other than standard lofts and lies, I suspect the PW on both sets is bent 1-2 degrees weaker than listed here.

TA1 FF and TA3 specs can be found here

http://www.golfclubspec.com/irons.php :

Not sure why they don't list the TA2s, but here are standard TA2 specs:

Anyway. . . I'm about 6' 1 3/4"  and I find the setup for the Clevelands to be pretty much perfect for my height. Standard lofts and lies (PW noted) and I even find myself choking up a little.

A half-inch longer shaft would have slightly less stiffness - from a science-fair standpoint - but probably not enough for you to notice. The DG S300 shafts have a high kickpoint, which keeps the ball lower.

Before getting a reshaft you might take a look at your swing set-up, and the ball you play.

Focus, connect and follow through!

my driver speed is around 115, and s300 fit me well so i don't think you would need to go all the way up to x100s.  Your better of getting fitted

Thanks for the responses guys.  They are actually only 1/4" inch longer so almost irrelevant. As for who was asking for me to post my swing.  Do you mean you'd like to see a video of it?  I'll try and get something in the next couple days if I have a chance after work.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
