The Players: Fifth Best But Still Not a Major

For a multitude of reasons, the Players still falls short.

The only reason I take exception to is "Number Four": It was Born to be a Major.

He states that simply because it was designed to be a major doesn't necessarily mean it should be one.  Fair enough.  But then he goes on to essentially say that because it was born to be the fifth major, it shouldn't be.  I don't see the logic in that.  He even says it just "isn't right." I think he needs more compelling rationale for Number Four.  Simply because it was designed to be a major, doesn't necessarily mean it shouldn't be one.

I prefer to watch The Players over the PGA Championship any day.  I love the fact it's played, like The Masters, on the same course every year.  Add in the BIG money, and the stellar field - I'd call it 'the fifth'.  Then again, what do I know?

I like the TPC.  I like the fact that it is played on the same course.  (I feel like I know it really well from years of video games.)

The PGA should take note.  It should be played on the same course or a small number of courses in rotation like the Brit.
